NUS Card

Post Fri Sep 22, 2006 3:02 pm

I was at the students' union today, well to be more specific, i was at the students' union bar at the students' union :wink:

Anyway, we decided to go and collect out NUS cards because they wasn't a very big queue. So went to the photo booth to get ID pictures taken, and then went to queue up to collect the cards. When it came our turn, the lady behind the desk ask which card would we like?

Apparently there are two NUS cards available this year;

One is a Democracy card, which basically shows that you are a member of the union, and the other card is an Extra card which is the card that gets all the discounts. The best bit is that you have to pay, yes pay, £10 for the Extra card.

Can you believe it. They are charging for an NUS card :evil:

C'mon, in Blairworld it was surely only a matter of time before Democracy was privatized.

So do you have to pay to be a member of the NUS, IR? Or is it just the card you have to pay for? I sort of vaguely remember having to pay some sort of sub in my student days, but it's so long ago now...

What i think it is, is that your don't have to pay to be a member of the NUS, but if you want to get any discounts you have to pay for the extra card which is £10.

Strange, cause i never had to pay any other year, and we got an NUS card which got us discounts.

Yeah, I'm sure that's new. Now that's really mean. :evil:
So I guess you have to decide whether the amount you'll get in discounts is worth it.

Exactly.

Though quite a few shops give discount, so i think it would be worth it as it is valid for a whole year.

i wonder where all the money is going though :evil:

Where the money goes is something they'll probably never tell you. :evil:
Some of the discounts are quite good, though. I know that it's sometimes worth finding an NUS member to get stuff for you in HMV. :wink:
