I always wanted to try a black russian but you can't get kalua round here.

I can't stand straight (or nearly straight_ coffee liquer. But I've always had Dark Russians as:

1/3 Vodka
1/3 Coffee Liquer
1/3 milk

Man I used to drink pint after pint of those when I was sixteen. Would get massively hammered, listen to The Pogues, and cruise around UseNet. rec.humor.funny was really, really awesome when I was totally hammered.

Wow. Sixteen. That was eighteen years ago. More than half my lifetime away. Wow.

Hmm...I'mn no expert, but I think the addition of milk is what changes it from a Black Russian to a White Russian. Then there's always the wimpy version, Kahlua and cream, no vodka (still does the job if you drink enough of them).

My late-teens drinks of choice were generally the really sweet ones - the aforementioned Kahlua combos were favorites, as was a Slow Gin Fizz, and something my brother introduced me to, a Sicilian Kiss, which is equal parts Amaretto and Southern Comfort. Sickeningly sweet, and very strong.

anyways the drink of choice around here is dark rum and coke or rye and ginger, for the afternoon cravings of alcohol i like to mix a ceaser of two

THE BEST GODDAMN WHITE RUSSIAN EVER

1 Shot Kahlua
1 1/2 Shots Bailey's Irish Cream
1 Shot Vodka
1 Shot Half-and-Half or Light Cream
2 Shots Milk
1/2 Shot Vanilla Extract
1 tablespoon French Vanilla Ice Cream

Pour over ice in shaker and give it a couple of spins until the ice cream is blended.

Variation - The Best Goddamn Dark Russian Ever

Substitute two teaspoons chocolate syrup for vanilla extract, put in an extra shot of milk, and leave out the ice cream.

So my extremely limited research indicates that the addition of chocolate is what makes it a "Dark Russian."

Anybody heard of a Laghrerita? Its kinda like a Margherita but, as you've probably guessed, with lager.

Tequila!!! Now there's a drink that needs no embelishment.
