My copy of The Good, the Bad and the Queen has just arrived.

I decided it was time to get hold of John and Jon, as it were, just to see...

As for John Cale, well I loved the Velvets, naturally, but if I'm honest a lot of his later stuff is a bit weird even for me. But off to see him on Sunday, and I thought I really should have a listen first.

I haven't got The Good, The Bad... yet - what do you think of it?

I was rather fond of the Velvets as well, but never warmed to Cade's solo stuff either. I did see him live once at the old Phoenix Festival at Long Marston airfield. IIRC, he was on just before the Pogues! 45 minutes of scraping away on a viola got old rather quickly

First run through of The Good . . . suggested an album you have to work at but that will be worth the effort. It's a natural progression from a lot of the stuff Damon Albarn was doing with Blur.

I just dug out their live reunion CD for the first time in years. You know, it's not bad at all. Cale's viola scraping goes well with Lou's guitar pyrotechnics in "Hey Mr. Rain".

Wish I could've seen them but they only played Paris as far as I know.

I just bought another Delmore Brothers 78, "The Dying Truckdriver". And thus far I'm winning a bidding war for a Memphis Minnie 78 on Okeh - wish me luck!

"The Road To Escondido"
J.J. Cale & Eric Clapton

Nice stuff, and I'd put Mr. Cale right up there with John Prine as greatest unrecognized song writers. right?

The Good, The Bad, and the Queen.

Seeing them March 12th at Webster Hall in NYC.. Dunno if I'm gonna be able to handle Paul Simonon (someone I greatly admire) AND the Pogues all in one week.

So what do you think of the album, Nancy?

I missed the chance to see them before Christmas, and I've been cross about it ever since.

I bought a three-CD box-set of Tom Jones. It came in a metal case and all! :D :D :D

If they had a sense of humor it would have come packaged with women's support garments.

I was given free tix to see Tom Jones in Cape Cod about five years ago. He was extremely entertaining. Green, Green Grass of home was phenomenal. The number of smoking 22-year old women throwing their undies at the guy was mindblowing.
