I purchased 'Guy' a few weeks ago,it's a lovely tribute to a much missed performer.I still rate Old No.One as Guy Clark's finest album.

Can you believe he was only 34 when that came out? A guy his age writing "LA Freeway", "Old Time Feeling", "Desperadoes Waiting for a Train"... songs that have the depth of observation and wisdom of living of somebody twice or thrice that age!

In the liner notes to "Guy", Steve mentions looking at some early pictures of the two of them and only realizing now how young Guy was, because he seemed such an old soul even back then.

Not exactly an album and not bought since it’s free, but I’ve listened to an 8 episodes podcast on Spotify about the Clash from Chuck D. Quite interesting and well narrated.

He has a cool mushroom t-shirt on his site for $20.

Was gonna send it to a sibling who has a heightened interest in such things but they pissed me off relaying the jokes made about some beet socks I sent them awhile back.
Beets, mushrooms, whatever.

Well this arrived yesterday, and i must insist you all buy it. The mastering is by Nick Robbins, and like The Pogues albums he re-mastered it sounds amazing. I love my vinyl sure, but i'm not ideological, and a well-mastered digital album is a great thing.

There are a full 30 bonus tracks on this release. Some highlights include the live takes of "Kitty Ricketts" & "Enemies" and the 1989 recordings "Under Clerey's Clock" & "Plurabelle". There are a vast swath of single mixes, b-sides, demo tracks, backing tracks etc. Mark Megaray's bass is a highlight in the demos. I am currently listening to the "Johnny Jukebox (backing track album rehearsal)", which was recorded in the rehearsal space of Roxy manager Andy Czezowski. On the face of it, maybe this sounds like unnecessary filler, right? Until you hit play and that thing flies out of the speakers like it's on fire, like the band is rocking out in your living room and fuck it who even needs words? Amazing.

Buy it now, digital or physical, from the Ace records site linked above or from Amazon, using one of these helpful links to throw a few pennies to the raft's upkeep (the ropes are fraying here where the sharks were chewing):

The 2003 Dubliners remasters, which compile, i think, all of their early recordings for Transatlantic.

Image

The Dubliners - Which includes their self-titled 1964 debut, the 1965 "In Person … featuring Ronnie Drew" EP, and a collection of (mostly) un-released tracks.

Image

In Concert - Which includes the whole 1965 release plus unreleased tracks, the 1966 "Mainly Barney" EP, and the never-before reissued "Greenland Whale Fisheries" single!

Image

Finnigan Wakes - the 1966 album alongside the rare "More Of The Dubliners EP" and the previously unreleased "Gwenther/Paddy".
