A place to discuss largely non-Pogues related things.

Blair Dunlop: House of Jacks

Cara Dillon: A Thousand Hearts

O'Hooley & Tidow: The Hum. Which has a great song about beer on it.

Pixies: Indie Cindy. Which my computer keeps rejecting, which is annoying. Think the CD drive may be knackered.
Likes the warm feeling but is tired of all the dehydration.

"Original Dubliners 1966-1969", a 1993 compilation anthologizing almost all of their major minor/EMI album tracks from 1966-1969, and with pretty darn good digital re-mastering too. Available for a song here and there on line (I paid $2.99 plus shipping), but there's so many different anthologies for the Dubs i had to triple check to be certain i was getting the right one!

"Live & On Song" - Skid Row

An anthology of the four songs from their first two singles (1969), which are rare to the point of rumour, and a live set from the BBC archives (1971).

And yes, the first song is Phil Lynott's first released recorded vocal, with Johnny Moynihan on whistle & Donal Lunny in the producer's chair to boot!

It's Showtime - The Levon Helm Band Midnight Ramble Sessions Vol. 3
http://theband.hiof.no/albums/midnight_ ... vol_3.html

Set for release when Levon passed, this collection sees the light of day 2 years later and doesn't disappoint. As always with Levon live, lead vocals are shared around but his selections find him in fine voice, including an unbearably slinky take on "The Same Thing" and great versions of "One More Shot" and "Take Me To The River". Little Sammy Davis does a stellar job on "Stagger Lee". The talent on display in this band is staggering, so there's nothing they couldn't play the pants off of, and they do.

a whole shitload, lots of old ska
And I don't want no grave
Just throw my ashes in the field
And hope there's some soul left to save

I just received the Cash Unearthed box set, from an ebay auction win.

I've been low-ball bidding on this one since, well, since it came out 11 years ago! Finally won a cheap copy. Haven't made it through all 4 discs of new material (plus a 5th "best of the american recordings") but there are some stunning gems on here. I think the Neil Young tunes (Pocahontas, Heart of Gold) are a highlight, as is the live with orchestra Bird on A Wire. His take on Steve Earle's Devil's Right Hand is more of a demo, he is singing it almost nursery-rhyme style, but I can't get it out of my head!

The detailed liner notes with Cash's comments (and Rick Rubin's, and some of the musicians & collaborators) on each song are definitely worth the price of admission alone, for those of us who like that sort of thing.

Sugar - "Copper Blue"

Getting ready to record my first pod cast and want all the tracks to be played from my vinyl collection. Only had this one on CD and felt I needed to include Mr. Mould on the first show.

Skinny Lister: Forge and Flagon

Cracking album. With a real Poguesish feel to some of the tracks.

TMTCH: The Defiant

Cracking new album from a band celebrating their 30th anniversary and still producing damn fine new music. Sigh.
