"Blackie & The Rodeo King" by the late great Willie P. Bennett.

Most famous perhaps for the title track, which has become the name of the Canadian roots supergroup originally formed in Willie's honour, "Blackie & The Rodeo Kings". I think the whole run of side two (For The Sake Of A Dollar/ Summer Dreams, Winter Sleep / Pens And Paper / Take My Own Advice ) is unbeatable, one of the best sides of Canadian music ever recorded.

He also does a great version of "Stardust". Here's a performance from 2005:

Had the lp for years, but just (finally) found a reasonable price on the CD. This means i now have Willie's whole discog on CD, so look for it out on the bit torrent shortly. Out of print no longer, my friends - long live Willie!

Not allowed to have nice things as I break everything so why bother?
Love it anyways.
I have my records on a Mid-Century cart that it fits atop perfectly.

Really wanted either of these

I think my father bought a crosley, he loves it 'cause it can play any speed and he can set it up in any room. I'm certian he's never touched the usb, though!

I had an inexpensive TEAC turntable with a built-in preamp that i loved 'cause i had a great boombox with an aux in, so i could just plug it straight in without having to pre-amp. Ease of use and affordibility are definate plusses.

I've since graduated to an old Dual 510 that only cost $35 more, though, and while it was a more finicky set up and has to go through a pre-amp, i must admit the sound is much better.

Very random, especially The Dory Previn Songbook.

Bruce Springsteen: The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle.

This was the first cassette i ever owned all to myself. Received it as an xmas gift with a tape player when i was, um, 10? 11? I rembember being utterly absorbed and listening to it countless times. The songs were like movies, with the lyrics bringing to life fully realized characters, the keyboards , horns, and acoustic guitars created the settings. I knew every note inside out.

Or so i thought until today (I haven't heard it in years). I think i must have just rewound side two over & over because the side one songs seem much less familiar to me than I would have thought. But dang, what a great record.

DKM - Signed And Sealed In Blood
Gets better with each listen.

Madness - Oui Oui Si Si Ja Ja Da Da
Not been off my car cd since. Only disapointment is the pre- release live tracks from this cd sound so much better to my ear . The lp is a lttle to produced/polished for me.Some top songs .

Money Jungle, by Duke Ellington with Charles Mingus and Max Roach.

I don't listen to a tonne of jazz, but like what i like. And until i read about it in "Love Goes To Buildings on Fire" I had somehow never heard about this 1963 album with three of my favourites on it! Ellington would go on to put out more than 50 more albums in the next 11 before his death, so this wasn't exactly near the end of his career, but this album stands out in that it is mostly new compositions written for the session by Ellington, ranging from thunderous to delicate, from blues to avante-garde, performed in an intimate trio setting. What a gem. How lucky i am to live now with all this great music to discover...

Nice. In similar vein, I'd also recommend the Lau Vs Adem EP, Ghosts. A tad weird at times (mostly in a good way), and the title track is an absolute stunner. I may have to listen to it now.
