Them Thar Briscoes is cagey and modest folk.

Good on ya Briscoes!

I knew I'd seen this LP at a thrift shop, totally random to come across it again.
It ain't the real thing though.
$3.00 for the bunch. Pricey.

Me too. In a gorgeous edition with photos and lyrics in book form, and including a proper dust jacket. I don't think I've ever had an actual dust jacket on a CD before. Blimey. 'Tis an artefact of beauty, which Mr Amazon has at last got around to delivering rather belatedly.

I was looking at some Annie Leibovitz photographs recently. I tend to dislike 80% of her pictures, despise 10% and love 10%.
This one of Ms. Smith and familia is a good'en.

The new Patti Smith album is fast growing on me as one of the best albums of this year so far. And her best new album for quite a while.

Latest, arrived today:
Levellers: Static On The Airwaves

I haven't been a particularly big fan of the Levellers recently, but this is good stuff -- their best for some time, I'd say.

And it includes a track called "Raft Of The Medusa". And an updated version of Mr Trad's "The Recruiting Sergeant": "Now I'm sucking dust in Helmand / Dug into Lashkar Gar / Where the local weed and opium / Beat any British bar."
Likes the warm feeling but is tired of all the dehydration.

Just ordered the RM & exp Rum, Sodomy & The Lash, the only album I hadn't "replaced", i guess 'cause i own the CD of Poguetry*. But i realized it was stupid not to have the full set, right?

*(Mind you, this is the Canadian Poguetry, so it's got the dreaded - by Shane - Oboe version of "Rainy Night...") (which is on the box set too) (not to be confused with the remix version that was a Hell's Ditch b-side and is now included on the RM of that album) (got all that?)

have seen this band twice in the last month. Just yesterday at a Canada Day event outside Vancouver - strong songs, and talent that makes my jaw drop.

the shop is sold out but has the song excerpts on player.

I'm going with The Kneeling Drunkard's Plea as my favorite so far.

Weirdlore: Notes From The Folk Underground

A collection from Folk Police Recordings, featuring some frankly weird stuff indeed. 'Twas supposed to be connected to a festival that should've happened last month but fell victim to the damn austerity and the damn weather and the general damn uselessness currently prevalent in this damn country.

Just came home from 2 weeks away on the lovely Sunshine Coast (BC one, not Australian one!) this morning and had a whack of purchases stuffing my mailbox:

Pogues - Rum, Sodomy & The Lash - RM
VA - Sid & Nancy - SNDTK
Shane & Aftermath - Rocky Road to Poland
Willie P. Bennett - Tryin' to Start Out Clean - Japanese CD
Willie P. Bennett - Hobo's Taunt - Japanese CD

Am working a 4 hour shift this eve at the community centre, and i'm just listening to it all. Lovely way to spend a rainy afternoon.
