Well isn't the internet amazing! I've already come up with it:

True Believers 1987-08-18 The Backroom, Austin, TX (FM)

At this point in time, the True Believers had recorded their 2nd LP (which, sadly, would go unreleased for years) and tear through most of its tunes, along with some of the usual covers ("Road Runner," "Foggy Notion," "Train Round The Bend," and "Pipeline") plus "Wimp" from Javier's band, the Zeros, and even a new original, "Put Me Down." Fantastic FM sound.

How about a link?

Thanks for the help, Low. I got it off dimeadozen (I've been a member there for ages but have yet to decipher how their search function works), but it's also on archive.org's live music thing.

P.S. It would be interesting to hear something off the one-off reunions. That would pretty much be a guarantee of avoid that goddamned '80s drum sound and any other pitfalls that might have leaked into the live shows back in the day. Love Jon Dee Graham. Him and James McMurtry both. Guys like that kind of make me wish I lived in Austin. Seems to have a better live music scene in general than LA for Americana obsessives like me.

Marseille Figs - With the long goodbye EP feat. Andrew Ranken, Jem Finer and Darryl Hunt (co-prod. by Jem)

Has a certain "pogues" reminding sound, not bad at all! 8)

"Drinking With The Poet" by Scott B. Sympathy - with the Sympathy Band featuring a who's who of amazing Toronto-ish musicians, incl. Ian Blurton (Change of Heart) on guitar, Gord Cummings (The Lawn) slide guitar, and the amazing Willie P. Bennett on mandolin & harmonica. One of my favourite albums of the early 90s, long lost & reclaimed on ebay for $0.99! The smoking cover of Dylan's "Something's Burning, Baby" is seriously stuck in my head. Just played it about 5 times straight while driving to work. What a voice.

If you get the chance, let us know what JTE albums are like ..heard snippets on iTunes and saw a vid of The Good LIfe..he sounds really really good. Reminds be of the old C&W my mum would listen to - Hank Williams, Jim Reeves but he doesn't sound like he is 'copying' them - he has his own style. Well thats my take, on 15 second snippets...could have got it all wrong

Jet - 'Shaka Rock' (Not bad. Still prefer the 1st album, but nice to hear a bit of grunt.)

That's a fairly accurate impression. But every now & again, there's one that doesn't fit... too clean & country-pop radio friendly. But overall they are both great records - 2/3 great each, 1/3 a bit ho-hum. There's an ep too, but i've not heard it. Totally worth owning. I'd seen him live before hearing him, and the albums are much more polished, even his voice. This isn't a bad thing, it was just surprising.

OK, just listened to Midnight at the Movies and enjoyed it although I must say that I enjoyed the JTE live shows much more. The LP features additional musicians and his live show was just him with his acoustic guitar. The live show was much more upbeat and raw sounding. The Jon Dee Graham experience is the same, a much higher energy performance live than what you hear on his LPs.

Well, not so much bought, as just received as an early XMAS present...

AC/DC - Backtracks.

Image

GREAT set. Thanks Pre-Emptive Santa Person!

I hasten to add, I got the plain garden-variety 2CD, 1 DVD wee booklet set.
If I had received the extended bonus supa-dupa one I just saw, whilst FINDING that image just now, I may very well have simultaneously sharted, exploded, achieved 'le petit mort', and had a variety of transcendental epiphanies.

Any AC/DC fans really MUST check out the limited edition set. THE FECKING BOX IS A WORKING GUITAR AMP. Heheheheheheheheheh. Those crazy drug-fuelled kids down in marketing! What WILL they dream up next?!?

King Crimson's three 80's LPs:

Discipline
Beat
Three of a Perfect Pair

Can't believe there isn't a box of these 3 discs...
