Came across an inexpensive used copy of "Miss America" (1988) by Mary Margaret O'Hara. I remembered loving the single "Body's in Trouble", and the song Cowboy Junkies covered, "You Will Be Loved Again", so i scooped it up. AMAZING, like Patsy Cline with an opera singer's range and more modern, if entirely rootsy, music. I can't believe she only made the one album & a fecking Xmas album.

Hold on, let's see what google tells me... oh, she did the soundtrack for "Apartment Hunting", I'll have to find that. Shit, she just did a show in August! Of course, it was in Toronto, so it's not like i'd have made it. Here's some links to her videos on the youtube, if anybody cares:

Just got a couple of ebay purchases in the mail...

Tommy's Blue Valentine/Black Coffee 7" , by Pride of the Cross (that's with Cait O'Riordann & Darryl Hunt, for those what don't know). Had 'em in MP3 form for a while, and love 'em. I think it was Ani Difranco who said "Duplication - while sometimes necessary - is never as good as the real thing."

Waist Deep in the Big Muddy ... and other love songs by Pete Seeger, a lovely piece of pristine vinyl for almost nothing... plus postage. It wasn't untill that tribute album a few years back that i heard some of the really angry Seeger tunes like "Waist Deep..." (done by Dick Gaughan), "False From True", "Letter To Eve".... which all became quickly some of my favourite Seeger tunes. So this is one of the albums from that era, when race riots were burning AmeriKan citys and Viet Nam was in full swing and he was really quite despondant about the possibilities for change.

Which is how i feel most of the time, so it's good stuff for me!

Nice record.. Did you go for download only or buck up for the deluxe package?

By the way, interested parties, you can listen to the album stream (in its entirety) here: http://everythingthathappens.com/

I just picked up a Greenbriar Boys collection, "The Best of the Vanguard Years". Them Yankees sure can play.

No download, ...my local independent music purveyor got his hands on a couple of promo discs. Lucky for me last week when I walked in and asked, "what's new?" Another reason to support the "small guys." Eventually they will reward your repeated business.

Sweet!

And how cool is this? Byrne and Eno trying out reasonable ways to distribute on Teh Intarwebs. Fucking awesome. 320kbps MP3, FLAC files, no DRM, etc. I hope this works for them.

I've just bought the middle option - the CD + Download.

The Clash - Live at Shea Stadium. Showing once again why they were the best rock 'n' roll group this planet has seen. Apart from Kosmo Vinyl's rubbish intro bit that is! A DVD of this performance would be awesome, I imagine it was filmed?

For a coupla weeks now, I have been listening to the new release, Hiram & Huddie, which I'd preordered some time ago. This is the tribute album to Hank Williams and Leadbelly for which WEW has contributed two songs (Mother Is Gone and Gallis Pole.) I am liking the whole album very much. Info here: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... =221643395. I don't know if it is available elsewhere. It needs to be.

How are you liking Little Honey? I've not yet heard it. We got to see Lucinda perform in a smallish renovated old theatre in Iowa City in June, for which we had great seats. It was a wonderful show.

Lucinda Williams, "Little Honey"

As far as her other albums go in comparison, it's not quite on the level of "Car Wheels," but it's not all that far behind. I think it's going to be way up there on the list whenever I get around to making a Best of 2008 list.

I am jelous of you that you get to experience this album from scratch, i was immersed in it for the better part of a year! One of my favourites of the last 10 years, i even had it playing while i had a vasectomy!

I've just got Jolie Holland's newest, The Living & the Dead, and while i don't think it'll unseat Escondida as my favourite, i'm liking it. Lots of M. Ward and Mark Ribot guitars. I found her last one too mellow (though lovely).
