Sorry NJR, but Fred Joseph has way more credibility than you. Calling Limbaugh a white supremacist is accurate. Calling him "rabid" is only the slightest hyperbole (ie: he didn't act rabid ALL the time, only part of the time). We could also call him an extreme homophobe, a misogynist, and a lot of other things, with no hyperbole at all.

Honestly, i think we can lay a lot of the blame on the current state of political rhetoric at Rush's feet, or at least trace it's evolution back to him. Such a shame it is unlikely to die with him, but good riddance to bad garbage anyway. He deserves no more respect than any other white supremacist, klan member, etc, who dies. Ie: we should note it, as he is a significant player, but the man deserves no respect, unless you are also a racist etc piece of garbage.

Lunacy, pure lunacy. There's a playbook where you try to call your opposition every dastardly name you can think of. Who was that again? Nice try though. Just have to laugh at the thought that Rush was a "white supremacist". Solely because he didn't agree with leftwing nutjobs such as you.

Arguable? Perhaps but your use of "lunacy" is meaningless. It's not about agreeing or not agreeing with me. His rhetoric on AIDS alone has surely earned him a place in hell. One doesn't get to spout racist , homophobic, misogynistic, xenophobic rhetoric (he clearly, factually, did these things) for years and avoid being called for what one is. Death doesn't erase his legacy of hate.

Looks like it won't be going anywhere - the city granted it "Landmark" status. Ferlinghetti was doing regular hrs there until recently.

It's amazing the amount of labels you and your ilk can muster to spread YOUR hate. I particularly like how you condense a man's 30+ year career into a handful of quotes. But then again clearly overlook such when it comes to a person like oh let's say Joe Biden. The double standard is rich. I was never a big fan of Rush but he's an icon. Being Canadian I'm sure you know Jordan Peterson is a national treasure for you up there. 8)

Who said I'm a fan of Biden? What does Jordan Peterson have to do with anything? Why do you always resort to "what about-ing"? Is the legacy of Limbaugh so toxic you can't bring yourself to actually defend him?

Also...you know this isn't, like, just my opinion? Debates have been had, heads have talked, books have been written, and many, many, thoughtful and intelligent people have considered the career of Limbaugh and concluded his impact as negative. That's why I eulogized him with a Fred Joseph quote.

America, in particular (and the world in general) is really at one of those moments. It's time (past time) to decide which side of history one wishes to be on. Mr. Limbaugh was clear on his choice, I am happy with mine.

Of course you're a fan of Biden, he's the puppet your ilk dream about. I like that you think because groups of various Lib heads have discussed Rush, that (of course) is the only and final determination. Ha! Could you be more out of touch?
I'm guessing you never saw anything positive in your circles because well that's the circle in which you're sequestered . History will tell you a country doesn't just decide this is the narrative we can sell. It comes at a price. America is at a crossroad. That crossroad is leanimg to Civil War 2.0, a sad narrative of the times.

Hope you didn't come to the conclusion I'd enjoy anything about it.

On another note, DzM may want to work his interwebs magic and move this off the RIP thread, just a guess.

It deserves protection, that’s for sure. :)

I remember buying one of the posters they sell which hung in a relatives dorm room in Santa Cruz while they studied American Lit and got their Masters in Library Science.

Thought I had read the test they give job applicants there but now I think it must’ve been one for Strand Book Store in NYC.

Dutch engineer Lou Ottens, inventor of the cassette tape, age 94.

The first truly portable on-demand audio source, and the first consumer-recordable - I'm sure we were all kings & queens of the mix tape back in the day (I know I was).
