18th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks

Susan Mackay was a VP for TJ Maxx.

My thoughts are with my old goalie buddy Glenn, who lost his father, Richard Morgan, who actually left his home in NJ after the crash and reported to the Emergency Bunker under the WTC and was killed when they collapsed.

I also remember John Ogonowski, the pilot of American Airline Flight 11, whose farm is down the road from my house.

"Ace" Bailey and Mark Bavis, LA Kings scouts, both of whom I watched play hockey numerous times over the years with the Boston Bruins and BU, respectively.

Daniel Lewin, Israeli Special Forces, MIT Grad and co-Founder of Akamei Technologies. On board AA Flt 11, believed to have been the first person stabbed and killed

Also, young David DiMeglio, from my hometown of Wakefield.

All the first responders who are succumbing to dreadful cancers.

Never forget...

Except that was just me being too lazy to sign in.
A random coincidence.

Even weirder then that you didn't know you were channeling him and the universe was conspiring to send us a message. Anyway, having to think of a one-time username and then answering a spambot question isn't being lazy.

Some say 70 and some say 75. RIP Ric.

Will watch the Fast Times scene with Moving in Stereo today in his honor!

Veteran journalist and political commentator

You wonder in another generation will there be such a thing as a journalist...

While it's true "news media" is going through some serious changes, i might name a few younger journalists of note:

Jodi Kantor & Megan Twohey of the failing NY Times, who broke the Weinstein story
Kevin Donavan of the Toronto Star, who broke the Gian Ghomeshi story (sort of Canada's Weinstein)

Both of those stories involved the kind of in-depth background work worthy of Watergate.

Sara Mojtehedzadeh, also of the Toronto Star, who has unearthed a hundred years of worker endangerment at (Edison's!) GE factory in Peterborough Ontario. My grandfather is one of the hundreds who died young (and are still dying) of decades of toxic exposure.

There has been great reporting in recent years on the health industry worthy of similar accolades. And there's more. Don't worry, Mike, the muck-rakers will persist!

I have a sibling who is a journalist, of sorts. 8)
To say that they’ve had to make adjustments in their career is an understatement.

Just googled them and was happy to see active stories, certainly not in a f-ing newspaper though.
Those days are over for the majority.

Rose Mary Wolfe in Lestock, Saskatchewan. Bella Johnson in Whitefish Lake, Alberta. Jacob Grey in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. James Paul in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia.

Just a few of the 2,800 names released today - children who died in Canada's residential schools, victims of Canada's attempted genocide against First Nations peoples. Another 1,600 dead remain unnamed and/or unidentified, and hundreds more are still being uncovered.

That horror is just the tip of the iceberg:

I would never want to take the Catholic Church off of the hotseat, of course, but it's worth mentioning that Canada's residential schools were run - on behalf of the government - by a host of denominations, including the Catholic, Anglican, Presbyterian, and United churches. All were guilty of Christian supremacist bigotry and the most horrible physical, sexual, and psychological abuses, as well as crimes of neglect, murder, and other acts of genocide, physical & cultural.

Canada gets a pretty easy ride internationally, often i feel in deference to our public perception compared to that of our more aggressive neighbors to the south, but we've been as bad or worse in our time as Leopold in the Belgian Congo, as the Trail of Tears in the USA, as the Australians to their Indigenous peoples and everybody else who has needed to wipe out and/or enslave a native population in order to exploit the natural resources.
