Don of the Columbo Crime Family. Last link to the Golden Age of the Mafia. May have been one of the shooters in the murder of Albert "The Hat" Anastasia, head of Murder, Inc. Prison buddy of Bernie Madoff.

Also, the second major Don died this week, albeit of lead poisoning aka getting shot in front of his family home. Frank Cali, 53, Head of the Gambino Family met his maker in what is called a "disrespectful" hit since it was outside of the home he lived with his wife and kids.

Early rumor is that recently released from prison Gene Gotti, brother of the late John Gotti, was behind the hit and looking to take over the Family.

Just found out that the strange truth was that he was killed because he wouldn't let the guy date his niece.

As a comment pointed out:
"he killed the boss because the boss would not let him date a family member, ironically the killing proved that the boss was correct in not letting him date a family member"

Vera Good, creator of TVO’s Polka Dot Door, beloved of all who grew up in Ontario, has died at the age of 103. Pictured with a small doll version of "Polkaroo", our very own Big Bird.

And a pox on you for wasting a good pox on a muppet. Even if it's Canadian and I have no idea if it's annoying enough to deserve one.

Villajohn over in songs just mentioned that Scott Walker died yesterday. One of my heroes. Weird that I was just listening to his duet with Dusty Springfield on her show the day before. He was 76.

Aw, I've been listening to the Beat's Save it For Later a lot recently and love a lot of their stuff.
I used to think it was so annoying when people would say someone who died was in a better place, especially when my mom died young, but now I know they're in a better place than this. I'm just sad to read that Ranking Roger had to go through two brain tumors and lung cancer to get there. It must have been hell with the kind of caveman conventional medical care you get for cancer in this world. The worst example I've heard was how Tammi Terrell went through eight brain surgeries in three years for her brain cancer only to die at 24. WTF.

Anyway, I didn't mean to hijack Ranking Roger's tribute, but I'm going to check out some of his solo stuff for the first time.

I like to think this is a photo of him meeting up with Joe again in heaven for a jam session.

Just when I was starting to worry that I'd accidentally licked the cancer by refusing treatment, the disease I inherited from my mom is kicking in, so it looks like I'm right back on schedule for an early death like hers. That's a relief, I was getting jealous of all these folks who died in this thread.

Charles Van Doren, 93

A member of one of the United States prominent intellectual family, Charles rose to fame with his appearances on the game show Twenty-One. Fame became infamy when the show became embroiled in a major scandal of it being fixed-Van Doren was given the questions and answers pre-show. The movie Quiz Show was based on the scandal, with Ralph Fiennes as Van Doren and John Turturro as his less than glamorous opponent Herb Stempel. Van Doren paid the price, as he resigned from Columbia University where he was destined to become a Professor.

B-Line Appliances.

A long-running local business who took - for free - used appliances in all conditions, fixed & and sold them at fair prices with full guarantees and service warranties. Unheard of. Turns out they closed in December of 2017 (I thought they had just re-located) but have recently found that indeed that was the end, and they left a parting statement, as professionals, that confirms what all us lay people think about all these pieces of crap we are forced to buy:

Attention B-Line customers,
It is with great sadness to announce that after almost 25 years in business, B-Line Appliance Recycling Ltd. closed the shop Friday, December 15, 2017.
In this modern age of poorly-built, expensive-to-repair, essentially disposable appliances, we have now come to a point where we cannot continue providing our service at an acceptable level. Good quality, traditionally-made mechanical appliances have become extremely difficult to source. In their place is an abundance of modern “efficient” appliances that are proving to be unfixable, or too costly to repair. Appliances have entered an age of “planned obsolescence”, which is entirely by manufacturer’s design. There is no incentive for manufacturers to build products that last beyond any implied warranty period, as they make more money if consumers are forced to replace their products on a quicker timescale.
As such, we are now unable to source enough good-quality, well-built, serviceable appliances to keep up with the demand, which unfortunately for us has never been higher.

Remembering 8 Year Old Martin Richard, Lu Lingzi, a BU student from China and Krystle Campbell of Medford, MA murdered by two Muslim terrorist who bombed the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013. The bombings also maimed many more including members of the Richard family. The terrorists went onto murder MIT Police Officer Sean Collier. BPD officer Dennis Simmonds suffered injuries during the battle with the two Chechens after the murder of Collier, when they threw a bomb at him. He succumbed to an aneurysm a year later that was officially attributed to the percussive affect of the bomb.

Always remember. The terrorists were "refugees" handed welfare and benefits by an overly generous American and MA government.
