My better half was in the waiting room at the eye clinic yesterday, where she saw a hilarious site: an old guy with a sparkly new cutting edge smart phone, that he was peering at through a Victorian-esqe detective magnifying glass.

Wondering what that old guy was looking at... because looking at stuff affects your eyesight, you know. Or that's what I was told when I was young.

Ken Dodd, comedian, singer[huge in the 60's].I loved his radio shows, probably more then his appearances on tv.A very funny man, very much of his time,i don't think the 'Ant and Dec crowd'would appreciate or understand. The only thing i have in common with Ant & Dec is that we hail from North East England, personally i think they are dreadful and not fit to lace Ken Dodd's boots, nor mine for that matter.RIP Sir Ken.

Stephen Hawking, 76.

Not bad for a guy who was told he had only a couple years left to live back in his 20s.

He's been a familiar site out and about in his big electric wheelchair in the city where I live, always surrounded by his entourage. "Oi mate, are you Stephen Hawking?" I've had shouted at me several times by groups of the local youth when I'm out and about in my (rather smaller) one. It never fails to amuse...

I hadn't even heard he was ill! Phil Coulter said "He was a king among pipers and a prince among men. A complete musician and a gentle soul".

He was my first Piper, anyway.

Two females, 17 and 27 years old, remain. Sudan's genetic material has been preserved, so there is some faint hope for preservation of the sub species, but it's another sad , totally predictable day in the Holocene extinction.
