Glad to hear sweet Janeaway's death moved you. it. I went out for walk in the snow Friday night, and while spying on a huge owl for 20 min or so waiting to see if he'd fly, i saw the f@#$ing coyote that took her, and yelled like a crazy person (something to the effect of "You BETTER run! GIVE ME BACK MY GRANDKITTY!"), startling a couple British tourists enjoying the owl view. Normally i'm quite pleased to see a coyote.
Low D wrote:Thanks FH, i should mention that this wan't "my" cat, it was my son's - although he would bring it over to visit, and we were all sweet on her. I'm as sad for him as for the cat, honestly. Old Molly (Tov Cockatil), our first family cat, is still trucking, about to turn 17.
On the topic of Billy Graham, there's a nice memorial in Rolling Stone:
The Soul-Crushing Legacy of Billy Graham

It's positively miraculous how Billy Graham's shiny reputation survived, intact, till the day he died – so much so that even a person as astute as Obama could laud him as an untarnished American treasure. But then Graham was, as a historian friend of mine commented the other day, a "stone hustler from the start," one of the greatest self-promoters ever born. Graham carefully cultivated a reputation for personal integrity and moderation, despite the fact that he was not only a virulent homophobe, but a few other not-so-Godly things as well: Jew-basher, aspiring war criminal, back-stabbing political operator and Christian Dominionist predicting imminent apocalypse, for starters.

I have no skin in the game, and don't know much about Billy Graham. But, I do think it would be pretty fair to say that every prominent Christian preacher of his age, including MLK, was a "virulent homophobe". Of course, Obama wasn't exactly on for gay marriage until it was politically safe for him. Curious why he was considered an "aspiring war criminal".

I think the "aspiring war criminal" is a reference to his advise regarding Viet Nam, which was an aspect of his ministry to various presidents that i was not aware of. Indeed, it was their positions of Viet Nam that the led to the split with MLK.

I haven't read it in years (ahem), but still feel a tad sad about this...

I think I MIGHT have an idea why it's closing down. Maybe. It seems like there COULD be some kind of cause/effect if we look closely enough.
