Well said Firehazard regarding Cyrille Regis, he was a great role model for most black sportsmen and not just footballers.Cyrille was a gentleman as well as a great player and i saw how great he was when Ron Atkinson signed him for the Villa on a free transfer from Coventry.I did see him play against Aston Villa for the Sky Blues and West Brom,he was sent off in a fierce derby playing for the Baggies in 1982!Since then i liked him ever since,Villa won that match 1-0!When Cyrille Regis made his debut for the Villa it was in August 1991,one year before the Premier league began{a big monster was 'spawned']and he scored on his debut in a 3-2 win v.Sheffield Wednesday, but the goals i remember best were against Tottenham in a 5-2 win at the Lane,in the final home game v.Coventry where the big man took delight scoring against his former club, but for me the goal Cyrille bagged at Goodison Park v.Everton All Whites, was a joy and a pleasure to watch,as it silenced the racists inside Goodison. The Villa team that day had seven black or mixed race players,on a ground where home fans made it difficult for black players, including one Cliff Marshall who was one of their own. From what i remember from that autumn afternoon inside Goodison in 1991,the worst abuse was hurled at Villa's Polish full back Kubicki, which i thought was odd,as Everton had a Polish player in their squad.Pre-Premier greed league, those were the days.
