What? Who's Mojo Nixon? Do I really have to go and search?

Satirical singer/songwriter, fabulous southern blues slide guitarist, politico, radio host, one-half of the duo "Mojo Nixon & SKid Roper" who opened a tour for Violent Femmes & The Pogues back in the day, AND.... the man who wrote the song "Don Henley Must Die" (which does mention Glen Fry too):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEet3RwQnaY

(Incidentally, Mojo says on his own biography timeline that his entire world view was challenged one day in the 90s when, unannounced, Don Henley jumped up on stage at some bar Mojo was playing and sang along on that number).

I can't tell you why, but I've reconsidered. I don't think we'll have heartache tonight, or one of these nights, from making these gags, as they clearly display our familiarity with Mr. Frey's work, and I'm sure the ol' sourpuss would be tickled.

It's actually true that i played the hell out of an "Eagles Greatest Hits" LP when I was young. Being raised on a mix of golden oldie and classic rock radio, the Eagles were very much one of the artists that pointed me towards a world beyond guitar/bass/drums, with banjos, mandolins, steel guitar and sweet country harmonies.

On another note, Don Henley actually said something really sweet about Frey's passing: "He was like a brother to me; we were family, and like most families, there was some dysfunction...

Back to Bowie for a second:

Coldplay: David Bowie Turned Down Collaboration With Band, Drummer Will Champion Says
Champion told NME the band wrote to Bowie asking him to collaborate on a song they wrote. According to Champion, Bowie declined the project, saying, "It's not a very good song, is it?"

Classic!!

I've never knowingly heard anything by Coldplay but I'm happy to respect Bowie's judgement.

Fuck fucking Coldplay. They are going to ruin the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Those fuckers are gonna be worse than that old hag MDNA.

We need a West Coast...California knows how to party vibe in San Francisco.

Fuck those fuckers.

After a long five year's illness and descent into dementia, my spouse's grandfather passed away peacefully last night, his wife and oldest son by his side. He was 86. Growing up Catholic in depression-era Ireland made him a hard man, but emigration to Canada and the death of his wife eventually prompted a rebirth, and after marrying his daughter-in-law's widowed mother, (a scandal amongst the children, and confusing to the grandchildren at the time) he lived a long second life as a thoughtful and kind man. Most importantly to me, when i showed up, shacking up with his grand-daughter and becoming dad to her small kids, he unquestioningly accepted me as a member of the family from our first meeting.

Her obit to him on facebook reads something like this: From correcting my grade 5 textbook, explaining to me that socialism was not a form of authoritarianism, but rather an economic system to redistribute wealth, and taking me to Kilmainham Gaol as a child so I could better understand what it meant to fight for freedom, thank you Grandpa, and rest in peace.

In recognition of his whole life, and for his devastated siblings in Ireland (who he visited regularly before becoming ill), half his ashes will be sent back to Ireland.

I am guessing this is to draw the non-football fans to watch. Coldplay and Beyonce-I don't know any football fans that like either. I have not been to a game in a while (had Pats Season Tickets 1991-2005) but that music isn't played at games.

Metallica is playing the night before in SF, they would be a great pick. I think AC/DC would be the best choice ever!

Sucks. Sorry for your loss.

I hate Metallica. They can play Master of Puppets and get off the stage. I read Bruno Mars was supposed to perform again and also choose other acts. Then I read Maroon 5. LOL. I'd rather see Britney up there, to tell the truth. Camp isn't a bad thing.

AC/DC then West Coast rap classics would be great.

Hell, Billy Joel or Elton John would smoke fucking Coldplay and their little twinkle lights.

MDNA was terrible. I'll rewatch Prince. This is a freaking National Holiday. No Coldplay and no U2.

All of those half-time options are clearly second-run options for Up With People. Now THAT'S classic half-time entertainment.
