Alex Rocco, 79 Actor
Best known for his role as Moe Greene in the Godfather, appeared in different and diverse TV/Films including Friends of Eddie Coyle, That Thing That You Do, Facts of Life, Batman, The Simpsons, Bugs Life, and won an Emmy for the Famous Teddy Z.
Has one of the most fascinating backstories in Boston history. Born Allesandro Petricone in Boston, "BoBo" was a member of the Winter Hill Gang. During a beach outing, members of the Winter Hill Gang and Charlestown's McLaughlin Brothers Gang were congregating at Salisbury Beach, when one of the McLaughlins started hitting on his girlfriend. Bobo beat the crap out of him, which in turn set off the Irish Gang War of the 1960's. Bobo was arrested, but never charged in the death of Georgie McLaughlin (no one was ever convicted), he was released and was advised to leave town. 65 killed, the McLaughlin Gang wiped out.
Bobo went to Hollywood, changed his name to Alex Rocco, took acting lessons from Leornard Mr. Spock Nimoy, a fellow Bostonian.
The survivors never knew what happened to him, until they saw the Godfather.
Great picture of Rocco, Robert Mitchum, Howie Winter and some Winter Hill Gang members during the filming of the Friends of Eddie Coyle:
