r.i.p my dog sally

i had to get her put down today, she hand cancer in her glands in her neck, which spread to her lungs and back end, over the past two weeks. i know that i shouldn't be too sad cos she is at peace now and she isn't suffering. but when she has been my compion for the last fourteen years it's hard. i know i will miss her but it's better all around.
now she is at peace with sam (who also died of cancer), leaving behind her son ben.

My condolences as well.

Anyone who owns or ever owned a pet knows that this is a real loss. It can eben be worse than losing a human relative.

My condolences as well, Molly.

My son suffered a tragedy many years past, at the age of 10, when his dear dog Sparky was hit by a car. He was so overcome with grief that we allowed him a day off from school to come to terms with his loss. The sorrow was real, as is yours, and to be respected.

Our black bunny passed away while we were on holidays. He was a wag and a right character; and despite my frequent jokes that I would turn him into a sporran, I must confess to missing him already. Don't know how I'm gonna break the news to the daughter... :(

My old cat, X, is in hospital and about to die, probably. Wife and I resolved to lie to our daughter if we do in fact put the old boy down. Don't know it its the right thing to do, but how do you tell a 6 year old that you decided to end the life of a family member (the cat)? I figure we'll just say he died peacefully.

Helping the animal along doesn't mean that it died any less peacefully. There's no lie in that.

Update: X (lately known as pumpkin kitty) is now home. Still on lots of meds, though. I'll let you all know when he finally kicks. He's a big ginger tabby, everyone has always said he's a beautiful cat, which he is, but he's gonna die. Really bad heart. I figure if all goes well, he'll die in his sleep. And then we'll have a wake, online. He's 12 1/2.
