On another note....

Adam 'MCA' Yauch: Our Ambassador From Atlantis
By Dave Zirin; May 6, 2012 - The Nation

“Born and bred Brooklyn U.S.A. They call me Adam Yauch but I’m M.C.A.”

In the ’60s they said, “Don’t trust anyone over 30.” When it comes to remembering Adam “MCA” Yauch, who died on May 4, I don’t trust anyone under 30. Adam Yauch and the Beastie Boys stood for more than just hip hop and their personal “sounds of science.” They repped the soul of a city that no longer exists. The Beasties were global ambassadors from a lost New York City since smothered under the weight of police violence and gentrification.

Damn.

He created possibly the most irreverent Children's Literature character ever in Pierre.

When you sing/read that book to children, especially powerful ones, it turns a light on like few books can.

They don't care about the moral, but rather recognize the sentiment. He nailed it.

Amazing author.

I just recently saw his two part interview on Colbert. So funny.

My favorites were Pierre, Chicken Soup With Rice, In The Night Kitchen & the perfect Wild Things. We Are All In The Dumps With Jack And Guy is hard to find. I had a copy that I gave to a professor. It reminded me of Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land book.

By the government office...

I think Colbert and Sendak discussed people drawing pants on the censored Night Kitchen boy.
I've run across a few defaced copies myself.
People are strange.

Outside Over There kinda creeps me out with ice babies, goblins,

arbors, Ida & what not. But the art is beautiful as always.

And he did the cover illustration for one of the best collections of kids stories about war & peace ever ("The BIg Book Of Peace"). The illustration appears inside as as well, with the title "A wild, safe place".

Oh my God I'm scarred for life now, hearing him yodle for Charlene in one video and this...

Where did that one, EW, work? The bank? Wasn't Fife's beard a teacher?

I do like the Father Knows Best actress, played the Mom on Get A Life. The most fucked up sitcom ever made, after Benson, of course.

Just came across Mr. Lindsey & Johnny Cash on YouTube. While listening to Red River Valley. Gomer too.

Ellie was a pharmacist. I was a huge Chris Elliott fan back in the 80's, especially when Letterman was new and fresh. I liked Get A Life which also starred his Dad, Bob Elliott (of Bob and Ray fame). Definitely a non-mainstream acquired taste.

The first time I went to see the Pogues in Philadelphia, I decided (last minute) that I also wanted to see the Late Show. Found a copy of an Elliot book (with Letterman foreward) in a library charity shop and mailed it with a smart ass letter to the show. Got a call from them with the offer to attend any time. They are cool people and his former assistant  Ms. Birkitt was very nice. We ended up attending during Fleet Week, ooh la la. I remember my niece commenting that Mr. Letterman was fit. Random.

I love Chris Elliott and used to own Cabin Boy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9N0yG_Js7p4 and Get A Life.

Damn it. A sad day for bass players. He was a groove master. He taught me (and every other bass player in the world) how powerful it is to get in the pocket with the drummer and stay there.

Probably what got him the gig with Levon Helm & the RCO All Stars. Who you gonna get to play bass when you've had Rick Danko? You could do worse than Duck!

And that's why Donald "Duck" Dunn's resume reads like a "who's who": The Blues Brothers, Muddy Waters, Freddie King, Albert King, Neil Young, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Guy Sebastian, Rod Stewart, Bob Dylan, Roy Buchanan and Arthur Conley, and (more importantly) just about everybody who recorded at Stax in the '60s. Oh yeah, and a little band called Booker T. & The MGs... He was the man. RIP.
