George Galloway quite rightly called him a "popinjay" and Hitch was unrepentant on his stance favouring the Iraq War (he was more of a Blair liberal interventionist than a Niall Ferguson style neo-imperialist, though the net result was the same) and if by your friends you be judged, his schoolboy crush on the ever-ludicrous Martin Amis was a tad unwise. All the same, his dismissal of the irrational and the superstitious admirably did not waiver a beat in the prolonged expectation of his own death and the world can ill afford to have an underpowered Public Intellectual sector at the moment. Rest in peace, Hitch.
