I was sad to learn of the death of Alex Chilton, formerly a member of 60s American band The Boxtops and more significantly the wonderful BIG STAR,now reunited with Chris Bell in rock and roll heaven.

Yesterday It was confirmed that Charles Palmer, my biological father, is dead. But I never knew him, so fuck him.

Fuck him in the ear, and I'm sorry for your loss.

Tom O'Grady [aka "Socrates"]

Tom, a Londoner from Co Cork, was one of the band's oldest friends and champions.

It is an uncredited Tom who lilts the tune of "Dingle Regatta" at the very end of Red Roses For Me. He was, understandably, peeved when the philistines at Warners managed to lop it off on the first CD issue of the album, so I made a special point of restoring his "bit" for the expanded and remastered edition in 2004.

He was a wonderful spirit, always as keen to offer as receive a bit of a song or a story or a worldview.

Rest now, Tom.

Best remembered as lead man in late 50's do-wop band Ronnie & The Red Caps.

I saw him fronting Sabbath back in '92, and i have to say he kicked ass over the Ozzy I saw the year before. Hope his famouse two-handed devil horn salute gets him into the afterlife of this choice.

I'm surprised to learn he was older than me at the time he was making Diffrent Strokes. Peace, Gary.

Sad. Child stars too often end tragically.

Another Hollywood star gone-Dennis Hopper.

They were discussing some of his movies yesterday, obviously Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now, Hoosiers, etc. when one person stated one of the greatest scenes of the last twenty years was in True Romance with Walken and Hopper.

My Auntie Mary passed away suddenly this morning, she was 84. She was my nan's eldest sister (the eldest of 16 infact, 8 left now.) and lived in the next farm to the one my nan was born at in Rossmackowen in West Cork. In nearly 30 years of visiting Ireland many times each year Auntie Mary and her endless supply of tea and cakes was always there. Now she wont be and i cant imagine whats its going to be like without her.
