Bush the older wasn't ashamed to appear at the funeral. As some AFL-CIO chap said, Lay could have doubled the $35m compensation fund raised for victims "out of his checking account". He compared Lay to Lewis Allen, a man who looked after Enron's vehicle fleet. Allen lost his job, his home, his healthcare and his pension in the Enron collapse. With his young daughter, he moved in with his mother and relied on her salary as a supermarket cashier. A year after Enron's collapse, he died of a sudden stroke at the age of 43.
So it's RIP Lewis Allen, actually.

But the story has its twists too. Bloody outrage that they extradite the "NatWest Three" to the US - I have no sympathy for them at all but they should be tried here.

Most recent twist I've been outraged by is that Lay's conviction may be thrown out since he died before sentencing. If this happens the gubment will not be able to seize his assets and his conviction will be removed from his record.

Criminal. I know a guy who lost ALL of his pension from a full career because it was tied up in ENRON stock. He'll probably be ok -- not out on the street -- but he'll be working through his retirement, till he dies.
