My spouse just texted me the news, we're heartbroken. One of the greats for sure, 4/5 memnbers of our household are big fans, that's a good average. As a young anarchist, "Dispossessed" was amazing, my geeky son loved the "Earthsea", my sensitive daughter loved "Catwings"...

It's true, i was much more affected by the death of my son's cat, who was killed & eaten by a coyote early Sunday morning, after having snuck outside overnight. While he & his partner are of course heartbroken, they're also being remarkably philosophical about it, accepting her place in the the food chain (she ate a lot of mice), and are comforted that this constitutes a meaningful death because "at least she wasn't hit by a car".

Belarus-born accordionist Alexander Sevastian died a week ago today, aged only 41, after a massive heart attack suffered while on tour with Canada's Quartetto Gelato, who he has played with since shortly after emigrating to Canada in 2001.



I don't listen to a lot of classical, and a disproportionate of what i do listen to includes accordion. Quartetto Gelato are about my favourite outfit, with a lot of flobal, folk, and experimental influence. And they usually have accordion in the lineup. They are streaming music featuring Alexander on their site right now.

Mississippi-born blues man Little Sammy Davis has died, he was 89.

One of the last of the old-time delta blues greats, he came to my attention via his collaborations with Levon Helm. Helm, initially unable to speak or sing after treatment for throat cancer, put a band together with Davis at the front. His short frame wrapped in a swimming-pool blue suit and tight bowler hat rocking out the old-time delta blues took us all back to the earliest roots of rock 'n roll, something Levon was around for, and something the rest of us who saw them live in this era were privileged to get a glimpse of. http://www.recordonline.com/news/201802 ... town-at-89

Another Helm connection... drummer Mickey Jones who took over the drummer's seat for Bob Dylan when Helm left, died earlier this month. He was 76.

Dylan fanatics will already know that Mickey released his personal 8mm film footage to create the 2002 film "World Tour 1966, The Home Movies". Later becoming an actor, Mickey Jones is probably best known to the non-Dylan fanatics of the world for his work on Justified and, er, Home Improvement.

Each and every one of these has impacted me more than the news of Rev. Billy Graham's death.
