Miljan Miljanic, who died on 13 January at the age of 81, was a Serbian footballer who went on to coach Real Madrid, Yugoslavia and Red Star Belgrade.Iam sure they will be a few Liverpool fans of a certain age who will remember him well.

Don't know about Johnny, but the rest of the world did - Etta James was awarded six grammys in the years AFTER her comeback in 1988. Way to go Etta!

Totally kicking myself for NOT going to see her the other year here...

He signed the 13-year-old Esther Phillips as vocalist for his California Rhythm and Blues Caravan touring show in 1949.He started playing drums with a blues band called The Houserockers in the late 1930s. He fronted a swing-era big band in the 1940s, and had his first hit with an instrumental, Harlem Nocturne, which became one of the most distinctive numbers of the big band era. In 1955 he wrote the song that became Etta James’s first chart hit, The Wallflower, popularly known as Roll With Me Henry

Remembered on the Ace Records website:

(and yes, that really is Alec Palao of The Stingrays, for early Pogues fans with sharp memories)

Former Boston Mayor Kevin White

Served 1968-1984. Holds a special place in Rock history, as he orchestrated putting a Boston Garden James Brown Concert on Public Television the day after the MLK assasination. He was able to persuade/pay off Brown the difference in attendance (believed to have been only 3000 attendees out of 14,000) and is widely credited with helping Boston avoid the rioting that happenned in other major cities. Clip of the Mayor and James Brown here:

He also bailed out a couple of the Rolling Stones (I am guessing Keith?) who had been arrested in Rhode Island and were in danger of not making it to a sold out Stones show at the Garden in 1972.

My sister is a Jagger fan and we just happened to be looking at this picture recently.

Two Stones and three in their party were arrested after Keith hit a photog in the airport. Their plane had been diverted due to fog and he took exception to being photographed without permission.

Nobody has a prettier mugshot 'n Bowie though.

But he delivered himself there after the fact, so that doesn't really count, I'm thinking. 8)

For some reason this all reminds me of Axl Rose demanding a police escort to open for the Stones in LA. And of all the riot police presence at their later shows. You can't really fabricate a mystique. He just pissed everybody off. Permanently.
