Jayaben Desai.

I knew nothing of her before running across this article in my online perusings. Am posting here not because I will miss her, but because invariably someone will post something educational to me. Or that's how I understand Medusa to work.

Very saddened at the loss of Jayaben Desai . It brought back memories of my own stage1 TUC shop steward training many years ago.She was held up as a example to us all at what a trade union rep could achieve. Jayaben Desai said of the Grunwick strike, “It was what I had to do, and I hope that you would do the same.”

RIP: a real American HERO, my fellow Pennsylvanian
Maj. Dick Winters, died at age 92.

Maj. Winters was the main character in the amazing
WWII mini-series "Band of Brothers".

There was a tribute to him earlier this evening on BBC2. It was quite moving. He continued acting almost up to the end even though he was quite ill, they even showed a clip of it, he didn't look right.

I'm kicking myself now that I never went to see him perform in King Lear at the Everyman Theatre, Liverpool when he came back here during Capital of Culture year. At the time I was getting back into going to the theatre. I did want to go and see it, but, although we did a little Shakespeare at colleage, King Lear was not one of the plays we did, so I gave it a miss. In future, if an actor comes to Liverpool I admire, I will go and see them because you never know if this will be the last time you'll see them perform.
