If it's any consolation, I've read a number of knowledgeable music critics give JT records a good review. So of all the people doing pre-fab pop music, he's at least one of the better ones.

Thanks for the reassurance, GA.
And actually they did also come to see The Pogues last December. And the year before... And still wear the T-shirts. So I shouldn't begrudge them this.

I saw Rooooooof-us :) Wainwright last night .. He sang a few songs and then I saw Fergie. Was supposed to see The Kings of Leon but they stropped off because the venue had a power cut. Grrr.. . KOKO - easily the best venue in London :)

oh TOSCS saw them too.

Understandable. They look a right mess if they can't use their hair-straighteners.

My wife, daughter and I went to see the Decemberists with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (not the whole thing, but maybe about thirty) last night. The strings, horns, percussion, and woodwinds added a very full, mellow wall-of-sound effect. The arrangements were excellent. I went there thinking I might be disappointed based on what a couple others here had to say, but I loved it. I highly recommend it. Maybe they are just ok without all the backup, but last night's show was great.

Went to see Dread Clampitt last night in the park close to my house. They're a self-described rock-jazz-swamp boogie quartet from Florida, but they reminded me a lot of a jam band like Leftover Salmon. It was all acoustic, with a fiddle, mandolin, guitar and upright bass, and I was pretty impressed with them.

This Thursday is Reckless Kelly at Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta, and I found out Nickel Creek is coming to town this fall on their farewell tour, with Bela Fleck opening for them. That'll be an amazing show.

I was really hoping to get one of my cousins to head to LA with me for one of the Pogues' shows, but I'm not getting any bites, and I'd hate to go all that way by myself. Oh, well. Maybe the boys will feel like an East Coast tour next year.

I just saw The Bollock Brothers in a small venue nearby. It was, euhm, let's say, very punk rock. What a mess! I loved it! 8)

Braved the spongy acoustics and hideously uncomfortable seats at Cheltenham Town Hall last night to see Willard White performing the songs of Paul Robeson. Absolutely incredible -- the man's voice stops you in your tracks. His backing band were very impressive, particularly a trumpet player called Guy Barker. I know next to nothing about jazz, but couldn't work out why his name was familar. I Googled him when I got home and discovered he was nominated for the Mercury some years ago.
