Dang able-bodied bastards, able to run, skip & hop and yet dragging their heels anyway, without any sense of their privilege!

Bruce Springsteen. Wembley. Last night. Fantastic. Bloomin' knackered now. :)

Photos (link corrected. I told you I was knackered when I tried to post it before): https://www.flickr.com/photos/15437467@N07/albums/72157666796203453

As someone else remarked, Bruce would appear to have been Tangoed.

I just heard the lead singer on the Maron podcast a month or two ago, he is good at long form prattling so Maron was a good venue for him. He is seemingly pretty troubled with bipolar disorder. They also talked about their new three record rock opera called The Most Lamentable Tragedy about his ailments, which sounded kind of tedious to me. I was trying to remember what the name of it was for this pointless post when I searched around and ran across their version of A Pair of Brown Eyes on that record. I have to admit I kind of like it (and dislike it at the same time if that is possible?) -- it is very fast and has an old-school punk flavor to it.

Not a fan, but you can get tickets for $15 to see Gwen Stefani! So much for being on the Voice.

Took my youngest to see her favorite band, Panic At The Disco, at Summerfest in Milwaukee last weekend. Weezer headlined the show which I enjoyed so much I am going to see them again in Kansas City next week as I happen to be there on business.

Just back from seeing Steve Reich's composition, Different Trains, Live at Edge Hill Station in Liverpool.

It was put on as part of Liverpool Biennial and the composer had worked on a new film with his good friend, the artist and film maker Bill Morrison, which was accompanying the show.

The music was performed live by members of the London Contemporary Orchestra and both Reich and Morrison were in attendance.

Edge Hill Station was picked for the event because it is the oldest acive passenger railway station in the world and Reich agreed to do it as soon as he was asked.

Also on the bill in the support slot was another of Reich's compositions, Electric Counterpoint, performed by Mats Bergstrom, which also had a film to accompany it.

I'm reviewing this one for the magazine I've been working for and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. I've never even heard of Steve Reich before the chance to do this came up (and he's apparently quite famous).

One of those experiences that makes me wish I'd come across him sooner.

Last night - Rackhouse Pilfer at St Michael's Irish Centre, Liverpool.

This band were in town for the Liverpool Irish Festival, which was been running for just over a week at various venues.

I was going to go to this anyway, but got free tickets courtesy of Noel Kenny, who knows the lead singer, Leon. Actually met him and the mandolin player, Les, during the interval and Leon bought me a pint (thanks Leon, if you ever come across this post).

They're from Sligo and are currently on tour in the UK. They're described as an Alt Country and Roots-Rock band, and you can hear influences in there like Horslips, The Band and Grateful Dead's 'Bluegrass' album Old and In The Way.

They were brilliant.

Tonight - The Logues at St Michael's Irish Centre in Liverpool.

This is a band from County Tyrone, who are also here for the Liverpool Irish Festival.

People keep asking me if they're a Pogues copy band, the answer to that question is no, they are not.

From what I've heard, their style is similar, with a mix of Flogging Molly or The Tosser's, and I'm really looking forward to seeing them.
