We saw Concrete Blonde @ the Rickshaw here in Vancouver. You know a band is confident when they open with a brand new, and very mellow, song, ("Rosalie") and then jump into a cover tune (Midnight Oil's "Beds are Burning") before playing one of their hits ("Joey"). And it's a well-deserved confidence - they play with even greater fervor than they ever did. Johnette was hitting those bass strings HARD. And the ferocity wasn't just in the playing & singing, it was also in the words: "God is a Bullet" bacame "God is a Bomb" part way throuh. "Sorry, i'm engaging emotionally with the songs tonight". No appologies necessary! The show ended after a two-song encore - "Tomorrow Wendy" devolved into a rant about the woman fixing up in the alley behind the theatre, and Johnnette finally yelled "FIX IT! and stormed off stafe. Best rock show i've seen in years.
