I had a dream the other night that he had a new LP out, called something like "soldiers & heros" or "buffalos & heros"

After watching that clip I was thinking I had seen McKuen perform in Longbeach, CA. However after further review it was Michael McClure, with Ray Manzarek supporting on keyboards who I saw open for Jim Carroll back in the late 80's. I guess my recall functions are beginning to deteriorate.

We saw Concrete Blonde @ the Rickshaw here in Vancouver. You know a band is confident when they open with a brand new, and very mellow, song, ("Rosalie") and then jump into a cover tune (Midnight Oil's "Beds are Burning") before playing one of their hits ("Joey"). And it's a well-deserved confidence - they play with even greater fervor than they ever did. Johnette was hitting those bass strings HARD. And the ferocity wasn't just in the playing & singing, it was also in the words: "God is a Bullet" bacame "God is a Bomb" part way throuh. "Sorry, i'm engaging emotionally with the songs tonight". No appologies necessary! The show ended after a two-song encore - "Tomorrow Wendy" devolved into a rant about the woman fixing up in the alley behind the theatre, and Johnnette finally yelled "FIX IT! and stormed off stafe. Best rock show i've seen in years.

Frank Turner (and the Sleeping Souls) at The Joint, Las Vegas - solid performance, as always. Didn't see a lot of reaction from the crowd for Frank's set, though. Apologies to the diehard Social D fans who tolerated my daughter and I dancing and singing non-stop in the balcony. Frank was manning his own merch table in the lobby - got to shake hands and thank him in person... 8)
stopped in at The Double Down Saloon pre-show for a couple of Guinness and a 'Fat Elvis'... two thumbs way up!

Andrew Jackson Jihad - March 12, Media Club, Vancouver

I saw these guys open for Frank Turner in Seattle and Vancouver last fall as a two piece. This tour they're playing with a full band. I've had their last CD "Knife Man" in rotation in the car for the last few weeks. recommended!
