Dan Hicks & his Hot Licks are playing here in Vancouver on November 11 at The Electric Owl, 290 meters from the front door of our co-op. It hadn't occurred to me that, at 71 years of age, he would still be touring and putting out (well-received) albums, but he is and we're going!

Newfoundland chanteuse Amelia Curran playing in Kings Heath,Birmingham ,October 23.Amelia is actually opening for Otis Gibbs, whoever he is, Ms.Curran is sheer class,so i hope Otis Gibbs has the balls to play,i wouldn't want to follow one of the best singer-songwriters to come out of Canada.

So I have always thought that I would give my left nut to see Tom Waits play live. It is happening in the Bay Area on Oct. 27. I went ahead and almost got four tickets and then talked it over with the wife and got one. It is at a really busy time for her and a day after my girls 5th birthday, so the left nut might actually have to be extracted. But Les Claypool playing with Tom for less than 50 bucks? And I think Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young.

Holy Shit I just checked the lineup:

CSNY
Queens of the Stone Age
My Morning Jacket
The Killers (Saturday only)
Tom Waits (Sunday only)
Elvis Costello
Diana Krall
fun.
Heart
Jenny Lewis

Don't know how I am going to get there or make it up to the family, but holy shit.

The Bridge School Benefit is always an amazing lineup, and I ALWAYS forget to go. I should totally go this year. That's a hell of a show.

Just had my mind blown. Danny Elfman's Music from the Films of Tim Burton performed by BBC Concert Orchestra and Maida Vale Singers, conducted by John Mauceri. Mr. Elfman came out and performed 3 songs from The Nightmare Before Christmas, then Helena Bonham Carter came out and sang one. Danny came back out for an encore and did one more from Nightmare before coaxing Tim Burton out on stage for a standing ovation. The sound and images were amazing and something my kids will not soon forget. The venue beautiful, I could sit in there for hours without a performance — at Royal Albert Hall.
And I don't want no grave
Just throw my ashes in the field
And hope there's some soul left to save

The Helena Bonham Carter part sounds good. Love her.

Your children are very fortunate. Was twenty when I first visited London. I love that area in particular having first stayed on Queens Gate Road. I can picture the Circle Line and High Street Kensington station right now. Lucky little kiddles.

Also, I don't care if it's touristy... I always go here http://www.stickyfingers.co.uk/ because I am a tourist and they have ranch dressing. :)

Sportin' Life, I hope you do go see Tom Waits. Chance of a lifetime!

Clash - those kids have seen everything now. Wonderful.

As for me, well, The Tossers are coming to town this Saturday to a nice cozy venue a couple miles away from home. I'm smiling here.

I spent way too much money that I don't have, and my amazing wife cheerfully took up the slack. I do have regrets about it kind of. But I would go again tomorrow if I could. He was so brilliant last night. I never knew a fifty minute span could ever possibly mean so much. Absolutely ephemeral.

That's an experience that is always better in the future tense rather than the present or past tense.

It was a pleasure to meet you. Thanks for taking some time to enjoy a beer and a sammich with me.
