Is the Jon Dee show on a wed at 10 pm? If so you will get to see McMurtry at midnight unless he is on the road. I'm so jealous.
And I don't want no grave
Just throw my ashes in the field
And hope there's some soul left to save

Lots of steam up your nose, with or without other stuff in it (like eucalyptus), and spicy stuff to clear out the sinus. I find the "hot & sour" soup from the Vietnamese restaurant across the street the best thing for a cold. Generally, the first thing if you're coming down with any cold, flu, etc, is to go to an all-liquid diet (soups, juice, smoothies). Probably the best thing in general.

Ginger, lemon honey tea a favourite. Good with whiskey too.

And, of course, copious amounts of rest.

Good luck! Mrs. Me is on the couch with a brutal stomach flu at the moment, picked up from her sister who spend the 25th on the couch. Hoping the rest of us stay clean...

Whisky, honey and lemon. It may not cure your cold, but it will make you feel better. And with enough whisky you won't care anyway.

You've done well to find a reasonable gig at this time of year. Post-Christmas and through January is more or less a dead zone for gigs round these parts.
Likes the warm feeling but is tired of all the dehydration.

Off to Portland, OR to see a "one time only" reunion of Dan Reed Network on New Years Eve. These guys have not played together for 20 years. I went to highschool with 2 of the band members so we will have a blast strolling down memory lane.

Going to see The Darkness next week , an easy band to slag if you are in that frame of mind - But they put on a great rock and roll show if you give them a chance ... They also pay homage to another great Irish band - Thin Lizzy .

Going to see Thomas Dolby tonight in a <200 seat venue. He's debuting a work-in-progress, his description follows. I'm really psyched to catch this.

"Over the past few months I've been sporadically shooting a film about the region of East Anglia in England where I live. It's tentatively called The Invisible Lighthouse. You could call it a documentary of sorts, but it's very impressionistic, just like my music and lyrics. I'm hoping to work it up into a full live concert performance in 2013, in which I will project the film while performing a live musical soundtrack that links songs from various stages of my career, from 'Cloudburst At Shingle Street' through to 'Oceanea' and beyond.

There's a mysterious island across the water that during its chequered history has been an airfield, a military testing ground for experimental weapons, and home to the main transmission network for the BBC World Service. On the tip of the island is a beautiful lighthouse. Since I was a small child I have fallen asleep at night to the soothing periodic flash of the light on my bedroom wall. But now it's about to be closed down. Like many lighthouses around the world, it's becoming obsolete as ships adopt satellite navigation. With global warming and beach erosion threatening its very foundations, it's soon going to be a pile of rubble left to fall into the North Sea.

As you can imagine, the closure of this lighthouse is a deeply emotional topic for me, and I can't let it slip by unnoticed.

So at Joe's Pub on Jan 12th at 7pm, I'm going to perform a very primitive version of my new piece The Invisible Lighthouse for a select audience. It's a great opportunity to see a Dolby work-in-progress, well before it's ready for prime time, and I know my hardcore fans will be supportive! Joe's is a hip, intimate venue with a low seating capacity.

The tickets are $30 each. I hope you'll join me on Jan 12th 2013 for a unique evening!"

Joey Shithead is finally calling it quits for D.O.A., who are embarking on a farewell tour in this, their 35th year. The hometown gig here in Vancouver is friday. I'm not sure they've put out any good music since the mid 90s (I think 13 Flavours of Doom was the last i liked), and have certainly struggled with rotating-door membership, which makes output and live shows inconsitent. I thought they were terrible the times i saw 'em live in the 00's. However, they are seminal punk rockers, and Joey is a certified local hero to boot (seriously, the mayor proclaimed a "DOA" day in honour of their 25th anniversary), the gig promises special guests and former members and they sure have done some great music over the years, so i think i will catch this gig.

Wilko Johnson, March 6th at The Koko, Camden.

Really sad news, he has announced that he has terminal pancreatic cancer, and is refusing treatment to play some final shows. I'll be moving heaven & earth to get a ticket for this one. On sale Monday.

Just got tickets to see The Specials here in Vancouver!

Fri Mar 29 - The Commodore Ballroom
Sat Mar 30 - The Vogue Theatre

Got tix for the Sat as Fri already sold out. If anybody finds themself with an extra ticket for the Commodore show i'm your man! Bunch of my friends are going and i figure i could dance the Fri and actually listen the Sat.

Just read that Neville is out, but maybe not untill May? Unclear...

We are very sad Neville cannot join us on The Specials UK tour in May 2013 or indeed on the future projects we have planned. He has made a huge contribution to the fantastic time and reception we have received since we started and reformed in 2009 . However , he missed a number of key shows last year due to ill health & his health is obviously much more important . We wish him the very best for the future.
