Don't apologize to me. I'm not your content editor.

Finished the Joe Strummer biog, which I recommend highly. Chris Salewicz got a stunning range of interviews with people, and used them well.

Currently on the last lap with William McIlvenney's Weekend. Very disappointing -- slow and disjointed. I admired his Laidlaw series, but this one needed a damn good edit!

Was in a major bookshop here today and asked for the Pogues book and I was looked at in an awkward way so I started reading Great Expectations

I wasn't particularly chuffed about asking for a book called "Kiss My Arse" either, that's why I ordered it online.

Be bold. Stride up to the shop assistant.

"Sir (Madam/Ms). A copy of Carol Cerk's unputdownable book "The Story Of The Pogues" if you please"

Um, no, I don't know that one.

"Kiss My Arse?"

There's no need to take that tone with me. We can order it for you.

"Pogue Mahone?"

You're welcome.

Lucky it isn't in Mandarin or Swahili, or maybe you'd have had trouble reading it, eh?
What was it called? Is it any good? Was it well written? Did it take you on a journey of understanding into someone else's lifestyle choices?
These are more important questions - BTW, nice to see you around again Miss BOAA. You've obviously been busy at school (and/or elsewhere) for a while.

Just finished:
The Dalkey Archive
- Flann O'Brien. Loved it, as usual. One of the funniest writers ever IMO.

Last chapter:
PIRATE QUEEN The Life Of Grace O'Malley 1530-1603
- Judith Cook

STILL just starting:
JAMES LARKIN - Lion Of The Fold
- Edited by Donal Nevin

It happened to me very much like that in Borders. Once we'd established that it was a book about the Pogues, and that it wasn't by Jeremy Clarkson (yes, really ), the very nice woman asked the inevitable question: "And what's the book called?" Well, how do you answer that without getting kicked out of the shop?
