Heard him on CBC radio this morning, that whole prosecutor's office should be taken out & shot.
Interesting statistic I heard a while back that apparently the much-ballyhooed rates of false reporting for rape are actually no different than rates of false reporting for any other crime, but there's no crime other than rape where it is generally assumed the victim is lying, and/or it'll never be successfully prosecuted anyway so why bother?
This one hits home for me, because Missoula is where I live, UM is my alma mater, and I am a big football (alright I know where I am --American football) fan. I have had many happy days in Grizzly stadium. And I probably should just quit talking about it on message boards alltogether -- (see page 145 of the book for details). Ironically I always sort of thought that the small scale of this brand of college football somehow made it more pure. But then the troubles for the team started.
It really is inexplicable. Missoula is a tolerant and diverse town; there is a history of feminists in the West, and especially in this town. The best analogy for this town is that it is about like a Eugene or Boulder, but maybe not as outlandish as Berkeley. I can't understand how we could have such callous public servants. But I have decided this town is kind of getting what it deserves. The powers that be are all for the Griz winning at all costs and are not willing to face up to the problems we have. The University has done well facing the problems, but as noted the county government is a mess. And the population mostly still thinks that most rape allegations are false. I do hope some good comes out of the book.
