Since we have the topics "What song are you listening to?" and "What movie are you watching today?" I think it might be a good idea to see what you guys are reading.

Personally I tend to read several books at the same time.

The current books are:

"Talking With Serial Killers" - Christopher Berry-Dee

"Cold Print" - Ramsey Campbell

"War and Peace" - Tolstoi

Currently reading Body of Evidence by David Bowen. Its about his 40 years as a forensic pathologist. So far its pretty interesting.

Also reading a biography of Bobby De Niro by John Baxter. Its a bit slow in places, but very informative.

A Fairy Tale Of New York - J.P. Donleavy
Enjoying it through and through. And thinking about how amusing it would be to try to translate it into Czech. Really interesting style of writing - would be a challenge and fun.

Ian McEwan, Saturday - very good.
The strangest book I read lately was Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore, quite unsettling.

'A drink with Shane MacGowan' -V.M.C. (for the 2nd time)

'Forgotten voices of the Second World War' - Max Arthur

Whilst i'm here i've got to recommend 'Waiting for snow in Havana' by Carlos Eire , it's a great autobiographical account of a boyhood in Cuba against the backdrop of the revolution & subsequent flight to the U.S. where he has to start all over again. Not just an interesting read in terms of historical content but also a great memoir from an ordinary life turned upside down that still manages to find great humour & warmth in spite of less than ordinary circumstances. Just finished the memoir A Matter of Opinion by Victor Navasky, the longtime editor of The Nation (US) which was quite good, if a little long.

Also - I read Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt which I thought was good though not the masterpiece everybody else talks about.

I'm going to start Seamus Heaney's translation of Beowulf before I have to get into Nietzsche for school :?
