Christmas Dinner

Was thinking about making lasagna for Christmas for a change. Googling it, I've come to find out that there's a disgusting dessert called Christmas Lasagna that has so horrified the familia that I may be forced to invest in making one.

New Year's Eve has been voted Chinese and I may try to cook some Indian too. Have to do both vegetarian and carnivore versions, so it'll be a drunken project. They have one of those amazing Japanese rice makers that I'm too cheap to buy.

The quality of sparkling wine (vs champagne) will depend on the evil spirit of Chan Chu.

I do miss Philip waxing over meringue and arguments about corned beef on here.

Food, glorious, food!

I’ll happily be at work, avoiding all the christmas nonsense. Dinner will probably be a sandwich

Well, you jinxed me. Didn't feel like it so ordered chicken wings the day before.
It was a Christmas miracle.
Chicken wings are amazing.

My host has changed their mind to Italian for New Years Eve. Yum.

Won $175 on a Monty Python slot machine so the champagne is covered. I have never won a dime on that fucking machine before. 8)

Well, happy New years eve then... I take it by “Italian” you mean pizza, or what?

We didn't get too fancy with food, this year - just deserts. I make the old family recipe yule log, which involves rolling up a cake, and a tricky candied coffee cream filling. It's touch and go every year on this but i do it because i want to eat it for the rest of my life, but don't want to have to visit my family! The good news is i have my daughter, who intends to be a baker, pretty well trained on the recipe now, so soon i should be free. She made cute little mushroom meringues to go with each slice too, and the whole affair drizzled in sticky chocolate sauce with a touch of whisky.

Ours did not look as stunning as this picture, but it gives you the idea of the sort of thing we were after.

Tonight we're having cheese fondue & home made truffles & more meringues, drinking my xmas scotch, and watching "Johnathan Strange & Mr. Norrell", or as many episodes as we get through before midnight.

While it was no 2016, 2018 wasn't so great itself, so here's to a better 2019 - happy Solstice, merry Xmas, and a Happy New Year to you all!

I used to swap shifts (on the steelworks) to work xmas day..a load of shite, especially the gluttony of 'the dinner'...and it meant I had boxing day off, to go to the football, so everyone was a winner..the fella I swapped with got xmas day with his kids and I got to the match..
