The Temptations
Started watching it after the best parts.
I’m David Ruffin and these are the Temptations.
Leon is so good in this part. Can’t imagine anybody else playing Mr. Ruffin.

The Three Stooges in
The Three Beers.
All the trash on the LA roadside freaked me out as much as the Stooges freak me out.

Da 5 Bloods (Spike Lee, 2020).
Excellent. I love how he moves between 'regular' movie and stage-style soliloquy and documentary and back to 'regular' movie.

I've been watching
Lovecraft Country lately, and it's really making me want to re-watch Spike Lee's
Bamboozled. I recall having mixed thoughts about it 20 years ago. I'm curious how it holds up.
I should re-watch
Do the Right Thing again.

The Deer Hunter. Worth waiting 42 years since it's release to watch it. Bloody intense or Bloody and tense?

9 to 5 (1980), starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton.
Embarrassed to say I'd never seen it previously! It's held up pretty well as a goofy, lightweight but politically conscious story. If the 6 weeks of re-organizing the company is passed over in a montage as long as the title song, well, that was just the style at the time. My daughter is on a big Dolly kick right now, and this was an easy way of supporting that noble cause (she was also thrilled to recognize "Miss Frizzle" aka "The Frizz" of animated series Magic School Bus fame, who was drawn to resemble voice actor Lily Tomlin).

Borat II: More Borat
It's Borat, but all heart warming and stuff. Some parts made me laugh. Mostly it was cringe inducing all 'round. And I really want to give the baby-sitter a giant hug. That woman is fantastic.

His House (Launched Oct 30 2020 on Netflix)
Written and directed by Remi Weekes from a story by Felicity Evans and Toby Venables, starring Wunmi Mosaku, Sope Dirisu and Matt Smith.
I know Mosaku from "Lovecraft Country" and this film delivers the same mix of supernatural horror and super-realistic racism as that show, but also a refugee story and a psychological thriller. This film was truly scary, and well done enough that it both existed within the classic haunted-house genre while being totally outside of it. I had no idea where it was going, and when I thought i'd figured it out I was wrong. It has jump-scare, it has psychological tension, it has heart, it has fantastic performances and great writing. This was the perfect Halloween film for 2020.
