Black Mass

Saved by the actors below, especially Sarsgaard.

I didn't realize it was the same actor who played Slater in Dazed and Confused on the far right.

Can Hollywood please stop casting Kevin Bacon in every Boston based film. It's jarring.

The Beach Bum

Worst movie ever.

With Matthew McConaughey, Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher.

McConaughey bugs me but I never imagined the movie could be as bad as it is.

Harmony Korine must have gotten a lobotomy.
He wrote Kids, wrote and directed Gummo and created this?
Even Trash Humpers had originality.

So strange.

We watched a trio of Trailer Park Boys films over the holidays, having recently (re) watched the original run (Seasons 1-7).

The christmas special was a prequel, and was great if you've watched the show (Ricky's car and other show cannon explained). The other two were rather unnecessary, and basically just long episodes, each following a single disaster from beginning to end. More like a compressed season, i guess.

Joker (2019)

With all the fuss around this movie NOBODY even MENTIONED the brilliant explanation of the origin of the Joker's Goons!

Yesterday the Lovely Mrs. DzM and I took in two films:

Zombieland 2: Double Tap. It's a sequel. Same joke as the original, but it still had some laughs. Worth a $1.99 rental somewhere. Not worth a $16 theater ticket.

Dolemite is My Name. Pretty much what you'd expect from a middle-aged Eddie Murphy. Profane. The protagonist wins. Some fun laughs. It's worth an evening on Netflix. I was struck, though, that this is basically Bowfinger (though in a docudrama format rather than straight fiction), and that Murphy starred in that film too. (/me visits the Interwebs.) It seems as though I'm not the first person to have had this though: http://americancinemathequecalendar.com ... -bowfinger

jwz reviewed Dolemite as: "'The new Eddie Murphy movie is really funny' is not a thing I would have predicted that I would be saying in 2019, but here we are. He made his own Ed Wood! It's great!"
“I know all those people that were in the film [...] But that’s when they were young and strong and full of life, you know?”

The Irishman

Good film, but very, very long. Worth making yourself comfortable before it starts.
Likes the warm feeling but is tired of all the dehydration.

Well yes indeed. Some of them are actually older than me anyway. Which is disturbingly less frequent in movies these days.

I understand they didn't begin the movie that way though.
