I saw that Star Wars movie. It wasn't as good as I'd hoped.

This was fun. Thanks for the tip.

I thought it was great, my 12 year old, who watched the other 6 films over the last year with me, agreed that it was the best SW movie ever. Although as my brother said "You could just watch the original, same film".

Last night we watched Terminator Genisys. Terrible, just awful. A cloyingly emotional script from the beginning, just too BUSY, and please people, if you're going to start playing with multiple timelines, it's gotta be elegant. Or at least clever. It's become a very abused trope lately.

Jimmy's Hall (2014), Ken Loach.

Telling the true story of James Gralton, like a commie Footloose set in depression-era Ireland. An uneasy truce between conservative and left-leaning republicans is shaken by the return of a popular local socialist from a 10-year exile to America. He aims to re-open his popular dance hall, and this time, he's brought the jazz....

Like the best of Loach's work, it's happy & sad, serious & funny. Loved it, especially after my ears attuned the the County Leitrim accents and i could understand what the feck anybody was saying...

A man you don't meet every day

https://londoncelticpunks.wordpress.com ... -day-1994/

Found it on the London Celtic Punks Homepage.

Best soundtrack a film could have! And even Shane And The Popes appearing, fantastic!

Okay, since I am limited by my ten year old son as to the movies I see, here are some quick reviews from both of us.

Zootopia- Really funny, works on a few different levels (Son-Awesome!! I love Nick Wilde!)

Jungle Book-Probably about 40 plus years since I watched the Disney cartoon. Deserves every bit of the hype. The young actor does a great job. Bill Murray and Christopher Walken stand out as Ballou and a giant orangutan respectively. Scarlett Johansson's voicing of Kaa the Python is incredible. Not too scary for the young ones. A Must See.(Son-Thumbs Up!!)

Ratchet and Clank- I guess this is based on a Playstation Game, not familiar with it. Not bad, not good, caught a few zzz's. Instantly forgetable. (Son-Medium)

Beware Mr. Baker (2012 documentary about Ginger Baker)

While Mr. Baker's talent and influence is so established it's hardly worth mentioning, this doc does try to get into the head of the man behind the kit.

Wow, just wow. It's frightening how much the elderly Ginger Baker reminds me of Alan Ford as "Brick Top" in Snatch. And not just the accent (which is perfect) but the attitude.

The whole thing is up on the Youtube. I demand you watch it now:

Florence Foster Jenkins.

Set in 1944, the year of her death, this is a film is based on a true story and is about a New York heiress who dreamed of becoming an opera singer despite having a terrible voice, which she believes to be beautiful.

Florence, played by Meryl Streep is terminally ill and supported by her manager husband St Clair Bayfield (Hugh Grant) she decides it's time to pursue her dream before it's too late, so she arranges to make a record, which she sends a copy of to a local radio presenter, who gives it air play, and surprisingly, his audience love it.

A concert is arranged at Carnegie Hall, which does not go down too well because when everyone hears how bad she is, they all fall about laughing, that is until a female friend of Bayfield's steps in and gets them all to listen.

Most of the reviews for the concert are good, except the one in the New York Post, when Bayfield finds out he buys every copy of it and throws them in the nearest bin, hoping that his wife will never read it, but she eventually does and this leads to her collapsing and her condition worsening leaving her on the brink of death.

Although set in New York, the street scenes were filmed in Liverpool and I spent half the film trying to recognise places. I managed to recognise a few, but not all of them.

I don't normally watch films, if I do I wait until they're shown on the TV, but today I went to see this at a relatively new multiplex cinema in Liverpool City Centre, one of less than 10 cinemas in the city and its suburbs. The last time I saw a film at a cinema was in the 1990's and it was My Girl. That cinema is sadly gone to make way for a hideous looking apartment block.

This film is a tragicomedy and is compelling to watch. Take loads of tissues if you're a sensitive soul like me.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)

I was a fan of "Rise of the...", and this one boasted the same creative team and an even higher rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Unfortunately, it was terrible. Failed to make you care about any of the human characters, with only clumsy token attempts to humanize or characterize them, and just stupid action movie crap. How the hell did those apes go from never having held a gun to being marksmen in less than 24 hours?! What a waste of an evening.
