Sweet Sixteen (2002)
Does Mr. Loach make any films that do not leave one feeling melancholy?

It was REALLY good. Forest Whitaker was great and there are plenty of well acted cameos - John Cusack's Nixon is remarkable. Oprah Winfrey was also very good, but my wife said she couldn't stop seeing Oprah instead of her character, Gloria. I didn't have that problem.
Cecil Gaines (Whitaker)'s storyline is mirrored alongside the cultural changes in Amreica's Black community, mostly through the his son, Louis. It's a facinating portrayal of how quickly things can change in a generation.
I recommend this one highly.

I love Forest Whitaker. Anything with Whitaker, Liev Schreiber and Clarence Williams III has got to be good. How's Cuba Gooding, Jr. in this? Ever since I read an article about his childhood as an Orange County motel kid I've liked him a lot more. That's character building stuff.
The pictures of John Cusack and Paul Giamatti on the Brian Wilson biopic set are insane. Really creepy, due strictly to Cusack. He looks like Conan O'Brien. Paul Dano should make an awesome younger Wilson. He'll act circles around that Serendipity guy.

Oprah's too damn old to play Whitaker's wife. Unless they're supposed to be almost a decade apart in age. Could live without seeing her, Robin Williams or Jane Fonda.
