Some good shots of Dublin and some fine music in a low budget film. The two "stars" are Glen Hansard from Irish rock band The Frames and Markéta Irglová.They also composed and performed all the original songs in the movie.
Well worth a look.

Glen and Marketa won an Academy Award for one of the songs.

Alert, though never truly tense, funny at times, and sensuous for a moment, Iron Man is all that it needs to be-and just a little bit more.

I did enjoy this one too, Downey is the comeback kid. I'm anxious to see what they do with the sequel.

Just watched the last hour or so of The Phantom of The Opera on Film 4. I wasn't very impressed, had to put the subtitles on to find out what was going on, without them I couldn't understand a word.

Took my kids to that when it was in the theatre, and didn't have high hopes. But it was great, what with the commentary on arms dealing & all. We all at our different ages enjoyed it (6, 11, 13, 36). And it made my youngest a Black Sabbath fan, so good show there ("I ... Am... Iron Man!")

Took my oldest to see District 9 last week, which we both enjoyed. The paralels to "real" world were more than a little obvious. But like the George Romero zombie films of yesterday, I think it's funny that these themes are explored in this "fantastic" way. But i think i'm getting tired of the mock-u-mentary format.

Took my son and his pal to see Inglourious Basterds. I found it to be, er, Inglourious, to say the least. Tarantino is an over-rated hack, imo, despite all the references to cool German film-makers. Brad Pitt's backstory as a Jewish hillbilly moonshiner is a hoot, though.

Oh, come on now. You have to admit that Reservoir Dogs was a really good no-budget film. And Pulp Fiction was pretty OK. Kill Bill was an amusing romp.

But Reservoir Dogs was really good!

Yeah...when he made Res Dogs, he WASN'T over-rated. I actually liked Pulp Fiction a good bit too, just thought it was over-hyped.

This one's crap, though.

Rescue Me - Season 5

In its final series, the post 9/11 firefighter drama manages not just to avoid jumping the shark, but offers its best work yet. Finally, the September 11 issues which more-or-less just hovered over the first 4 seasons are now front and centre when a writer visits Ladder 62 while researching her 10th Anniversary book. The scenes in which the FDNY and their loved ones struggle to make sense of it all have the ring of authenticity about them and are genuinely moving. Cliche would be an unwelcome guest at this Wake and some parts - notably Denis Leary's own scenes - have a raw quality to them that suggests they're brilliantly improvised rather than scripted. There's a spontaneity about this final series, a sense of truth-telling, that may make it the most appropriate 9/11 memorial we've yet seen. As an added bonus, Michael J Fox unexpectedly gives the performance of his career as Janet's new wheelchair-bound loverman.

Reservoir Dogs was indeed great. But personally I think his only other really good work was True Romance, which he wrote (directed by Tony Scott).

Ironman, easy to watch and enjoyable, but very predictable. It was good to see Jeff Bridges again.

Tropic Thunder, some laugh out loud moments in a funny send up movie.Very good performance from Robert Downey Jnr.

I can't take Jeff Bridges seriously in a movie since The Big Lebowski....I keep expecting him to say "There's a beverage here, man!"

This to me was one of the best in recent seasons. Last season was cut short by the writers strike. Seems Leary and Tobin had more time on their hands to craft a more gritty season. They suprised me and Michael J Fox as you said can't be missed. See this season if you haven't.

Just to toss my 2 cents in, I'm in agreement Tarantino has lost all his luster since before Kill Bill which I saw no need for a second round of as I fell asleep during the first.....Inglourious is rehash of an old film with the Tarantino touch. A nice fantasy but by no means in the category of Reservoir Dogs or Pulp.
It's the same old story, fame and fortune has softened the once genious.

Started watching The National Parks: America's Best Idea documentary by Kens Burns. Excellent so far.

Tyson Docmentary style in his own words and thoughts, well from what he can remember.......dark look into the full life of the boy that went from mugging people at age 12 to the World Champion boxer to the bottom again. At times hard to watch. The promise, the ability lost, to the last just get me a payday. Boxing fans will like, others not so much.
