Did you watch it, IR? If so, what did you think? Saw it in the cinema when it first came out...

Come And See

Post Wed Oct 11, 2006 1:41 pm

oooooo...I watched "Idi i Smotri" (Russian - title translated as "Come and See", which is what the angel said in the Book of Revelations when one of the seven seals was opened) - I can't speak strongly enough about this film. Disturbing, horrifying, unreal and hyper-real at the same time, and most of all, a searing testament to the horrors of war. This film, about a young boy adrift in Belarussia while it's being over-run by nazi death squads in 1943, is brilliant and horrible. I put it beside Pasolini's "120 Days of Sodom" in a terrible category of films which may scar your psyche. Is that a GOOD thing? Hmmm...probably not...does great Art need to be entertaining?

I'm a firm believer that war films NEED to be horrifying. Any film which glorifies war is obscene. This is a great war film.
Disclaimer: These are my opinions and not fact as realised in these here United States, lest I give my friends the idea that everyone thinks like me.

I did and it was a good copy.

I got it last week some time.

I personally didn't think the film was all that great, to be truthful. :|
