Joseph Fiennes is really good in Running With Scissors as the psychotic, pedophile boyfriend.

Makes Annette Bening's portrayal of the psychotic Mother seem fake and overwrought.

According to wiki “The Commitments has gained cult status, and is regarded as one of the best Irish films ever made.” Not sure about that. But it was fun to watch, there’s no cheesy hollywood-ending and the music is good. Almost a musical, half the movie is “live” songs on stage, often nearly-full songs with no cuts! And the oirishaccent is always a pleasure to hear...

Victor Victoria (1982)

A remake of the 1933 German film Viktor und Viktoria, it's the first gender-fucking movie *I* remember, made palatable for it's age by pink-panther style slapstick & imbroglio. I actually saw this in the theatre when I was, I guess, 9 years old, and would argue that it's held up pretty well. It passed the 18-year-old queer daughter test too. Of course, it's an 80s movie, so the homosexuality as punchline, gendered violence, etc etc would be unacceptable today, as would the group of mostly straights playing gays. Unlike other 80s movies, though, these gags and gaffs were in service of a higher calling of questioning assumptions about gender and sexuality, so we can give it some leeway.

Although now, as then, I remain utterly unconvinced by Julie Andrews as a man, but sometimes we must just suspend disbelief and enjoy the show.

The last argument I had with one of my bosses/friend went kinda like this.
I am Christina.
She has the best line.

Though the real Christina bugs me.

Was watching Bad Teacher and moved to the other room where the other TV doesn't get that channel?

WTF?

Justin Timberlake is an atrocious "actor".

Disney's new prequel film, Cruella.

It seems like it wanted to be like Joker, but it certainly fell short of that because the story itself is, quite frankly, stupid. But it's well-written and funny and very pretty. Were we not entertained? We were. Good soundtrack, with The Stooges' "Now I Wanna Be Your Dog" making an epic appearance.

The movie is great. Book too.

I’ve read tons of his books, his Autistic brother wrote a book too.
The brother was a guitar tech for KISS, if I recall correctly.

The author in real life seemed like a jumpy snob, but who’s to say?

The Warriors, 1979

Entertaining in how badly it has aged. Can you dig it, suckers?

Actively watched Christian Bale kill it as cracked out Dicky Eklund, the Pride of Lowell, half brother to Irish Micky Ward.Marky Mark is all right. Bale is excellent. Marky Mark not looking anything like Micky Ward doesn’t help.

I actually watched the documentary High on Crack Street: Lost Lives in Lowell (1995) forever ago. It’s on YouTube and chronicles Dicky’s (and friends) fall into addiction.

The six Budweiser swilling, chain smoking, battle axe sisters are classic

Passively watched Jaws and A Few Good Men.

The New Mutants (2020)

Filmed in 2017, planned for a 2018 release but delayed due to the sale of 20th Century Fox to Disney and then the pandemic. I saw a teaser trailer at the time and it looked great, a dark horror psychological thriller. The story was great, the cinematography was great, but the script and the characters gave us a PG 13 after-school special. It's hard to say about the acting - I think they were all really great but the characters were so hackneyed (and borderline racist in the depiction of Indigenous people in one case) there wasn't much for them to work with.

Lost opportunity. Disappointed. Especially for a stand-alone film where they could have done anything Remember, Deadpool was a New Mutant, and those films went a different way to great success
Marvel really needs to consider creating new characters instead of endlessly recycling their intellectual (sic) copyright on... let's say "dated" ... characters like Mirage, or hand the reins to an appropriate writer to revision them.
