O sabor das margaridas (Bitter Daisies). A six part Netflix detective series set in Galicia - where, it appears all the men are dodgy! It's deliberate and slow but captivating. We bingewatched in two days. The Galician language appears to be a Spanish / Portuguese hybrid which was an entertaining challenge. Also has the best "I did not see that coming" twist in the final episode. Looking forward to series 2.

That one's on the list for watching. Currently occupied with The Man In Room 301 (Finnish psychological family/revenge drama thingy) and Bloodlands (not totally convinced by this one) on BBC, finishing off The Great (which was a lot of fun) and starting Deutschland 89. Looking forward to next season of Line of Duty starting soon.

A clip of stumblefuck Piers Morgan getting his panties in a bunch.

How quickly did he fail in the USA?
Pretty damn fast.

Put him in the league with Chevy Chase and John McEnroe. Though he's even more of a self-infatuated prick. And... that is saying something.

And now he has "resigned" from his post with ITV. Five'll get you ten he's working for Murdoch or Andrew Neil within a fortnight.

He may or may not be the most self infatuated prick journalist but he's in the top one, unless Nigel Farage is a journalist...

Buh-bye!

I just saw the picture of Piers giving The Former President (The big Cheeto) a rim job. The one that Alan Sugar wanted to put in the Tate.

I watched some seasons of Sugar’s Apprentice but know zero about him other than he is sun damaged and formally owned(?) a football team?

I dunno.

I'd be pretty sure there's a job lined up for him on Andrew Neil's 1930s tribute channel.

Morgan is a narcissistic grasshole, obviously. I guess he did have the ability (sadly uncommon among British TV journalists currently, it seems) to hold ministers of this appalling government to account, when it suited him. But being a complete creep totally outweighed that.

Rebellion on Netflix. Dramatisation of the 1916 uprising and (series 2) the road to independence. The English and the catholic church come across as badly as you might expect.

Inhuman Resources.

Another French thing on Netflix. I absolutely loved it. Starring one Eric Cantona. I am aware I may be biased, but he was superb.

We enjoyed the first series a lot, and that twist in the final episode...
But not sure at all about the second series. It was mad stuff.

Yep! Agree completely. The second series was crazy. It looked like she was having combined attacks of tinnitus, vertigo and paranoia. Still watched it all in case there was a repetition of a ridiculous twist!

La Foret was this week's French police number. Serial killer in the Ardenne. Weird and creepy, but none the worse for that.

The Plot Against America (2020, HBO) Written by David Simon and Ed Burns, based on the 2004 novel of the same name by Philip Roth

"An alternate American history told through the eyes of a working-class Jewish family in Newark, New Jersey, as they watch the political rise of Charles Lindbergh, an aviator-hero and xenophobic populist, who becomes president and turns the nation toward fascism."

Roth wrote the novel based on the historical period, but Simon & Burns clearly took inspiration from Trump's Amerika, and it's a perfect match. We are all tired of Trump, and WWII has been done to death in popular media, but the combination as portrayed in this alternate historical context is gripping, and illuminates the recent creep to fascism in a way that - placed next to the horrors of WWII - makes it scarier. When brownshirts attack a rally of Lindbergh's (Jewish) political opponent, what are we seeing but Proud Boys attacking BLM protestors? The fate of the first Lady's spokesman predicted how Trump's followers turned on VP Pence just a few months later. Some interesting flip with some of the celebrity/populist candidate stuff happening on both sides in this story too. And of course it's written David Simon & Ed Burns, who brought us The Wire, so the multi-generational characters are deeply explored and evolve over six episodes, and the New Jersey of Roth's childhood is brought to life in all it's flawed beauty.

This is what storytelling is FOR, folks.

Just finished Il Cacciatore (The Hunter).

Italian TV drama series based on the story of anti-Mafia justices in the 1990s. Took a couple of episodes to get into, but we thought it was pretty good. Currently showing in the Walter presents thread on Channel 4, and streaming on 4 On Demand.

Paul Shaffer throwing out Ron Wood’s name alongside Fats, Ray Charles and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Best thing Ron Wood ever did was run around drunk onstage with a scarf pissing Mick Jagger off.
