This explains why I have always been crap at it.

Enjoying the series, though.

Yep, loved it. Very stylish and great attention to detail on the 1960's period sets. Especially the hotel lobby and staircase at the first tournament she travelled to.

I was lead to believe it was a true story and went searching for more info on Beth Harmon

I've now read the book - which is also very good, which led me to re-reading The Hustler and I've just started The Colour of Money.

The house decor and furniture was so reminiscent of the houses I grew up in. Cracking soundtrack too. And daughter now wants all the clothes.

And I'm still shite at chess, it seems.

I suspect I may be best in the house too. Though I reckon the cat would kick my ass at chess if he could be bothered to play.

That's 'cause cats, all of them, are avid believers in the "knock over all the pieces and flip the board" strategy if things aren't going their way (or even if things ARE going their way but they're kinda bored).

It's hard to win against that kind of strategy.

There is that. But it's also that the cat is way cleverer than me. At least, from the way he looks at me it seems he knows he is.

They have indeed been brilliant. Uncomfortable watching some of the time though. A chilling reminder of elements of the past that the government holds in such high regard and to which it is striving to take us back.
