Besides all the really popular series like Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Shameless, Vikings, Mr. Robot, Also, recently watched: Handmaid's Tale, American Gods, and The Fall (Gillian Anderson was very good in this).

How was American Gods? I actually just re-read the book, which I think i enjoyed even more this time, in anticipation of watching the show. Neil Gaiman is probably my favourite author, and he has actually been rather well-served by visual adaptations (with the exception of Starstruck, i think, although now i can't really remember the film).

I enjoyed it, although having not read the book, I think many scenes flew over my head.

Having just read the book a second time, i realize that many scenes flew over my head on first read, so i suppose that's a good sign.

Top of the Lake series 1. I can't believe we missed this in 2013. We watched the whole thing over a couple of nights in order to understand the new lot. Absolutely superb.

He must be on some heavy ass drugs. :?

Worse than Wyclef Jean dressed as a fucking penguin on a hockey float and that is saying something.

We just binged Season 2 of Stranger things, which was great family entertainment. For families who like a bit of fear.

We also watched the most reason (er, Series 10) season of Doctor Who, in preparation for the Xmas special, which we watched today. I thought the writing this season was better, and we quite liked Bill as a companion, although the Xmas special itself was just basically a love-in for geeky fans on the show on the occasion of lead actor Peter Capaldi & showrunner Steven Moffat's departure. But we're fan geeks, so it was ok.

Have just finished season 1 of "Marvel's Jessica Jones", which was great - a super-powered individual in a world where such people are a secret. Suffering PTSD, alcohol & family issues, thrown into being a hero because she has no choice. Possibly the most realistic superhero show ever.

Also watching "Ash Vs. Evil Dead" which is silly but an awful lot of fun, and has brought Lucy Lawless back to TV as well, not to mention a multi-episode cameo by Lee Majors!

Homeland (Season 7)

Clare Danes continues doing a fabulous job portraying Carrie Mathison, a compelling-written (former) FBI agent who struggles with mental illness while connecting the dots, uncovering conspiracy, and catching the bad guy (or not).

Unfortunately, the rest of the show is now terrible. By my count, this is the third season (along with the previous and the one where Saul gets kidnapped) that is just plain stupid. Perhaps spoiled by their success in predicting global events, the writers tried to stay current by spinning their Hilary-esqe character into a Tump-ish president, and the result is an incoherent character whose actions make no sense. The fact that Mandy Patinkin stopped acting beyond the one mode a stressed-out, tired, squinty, do-gooder isn't helping anything. And that's another thing - his character, constantly in the highest positions of power for the last several seasons - has got to stop acting the oppressed, un-listened to underdog.

I really liked this show, but at this point I'm only going to finish this season because i know it's the last.
