You may think you're an areshole, I don't think you are and you do not offend me, takes a lot to really offend me (even though sometimes it doesn't look like it).

I've committed both forum sins in the past. However, no matter how careful you are, it's usually the more innocuous-seeming things in my opinion that seems to offend the Wrong Person, and the Wrong Person is usually good friends with the majority of the people on the forum. And the Wrong Person then wages a campaign to get you kicked off. At least that has been my experience. The especially offensive stuff I have put on forums that I get a bit nervous about usually is barely glanced over. I've been a regular contributor to about 7 forums over the past 10 years, some have come and gone, but only been kicked off of one for talking politics to the Wrong Person. I ruffled some feathers at another forum for being a bit flirty with the Wrong Person, and said nothing more offensive than I would have said with most people, but hey...that eventually smoothed over.

The problem is that the written word is harder to tell the intent, as you miss important clues like body language and inflection. Not to mention the difference between The Creepy Guy and The Obnoxious Guy. The Obnoxious Guy can talk to you about your uterus and it will not bug you, but if The Creepy Guy in an office situation comes up and says, "That's a very pretty dress," you are ready to call Human Resources.

Joe's Cafe in St. Louis may now be my favorite music venue. Don't miss it if you are ever in the area.

If you give an address, say "4832 E Seventh Avenue", as you search for your bus route, Vancouver's transit website (Translink) will freak out and provide you with the entire list of its light rail stations. The info you're supposed to provide is, "4832 7". Not a word of a lie.
