Today I learned that it would be wise always to keep a spare pair of batteries by the desk in case the stupid mouse batteries run out again. This is possibly something I should have learned last time.

It's the darnedest thing. And of course, a mouse is one of those things you don't even know runs on batteries until the batteries die.

Earlier in the week I tried to book tickets for some workshops at the Everyword festival next month (which is a festival for aspiring playwrights based at the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool). I learned that every workshop I want to do is on during the day in the week when I have to be in work.

However, today, I learned that I have successfully become a member of the writer's database.

Today I learned you need not miss the O'Sullivan/Selby snooker showdown just because you're marooned in a hotel in Berlin: you just tune in to the Eurosport channel for LIVE! coverage from Sheffield. OK, so "Not even Ronnie O'Sullivan can pot this one", coming just before a Ronnie O'Sullivan pot, doesn't provide quite the same peculiar pleasure coming from Germany's answer to John Virgo, but heck, I'll take it. And at least the Germans have a word for Schadenfreude.

But I don't especially like what the scoreboard is telling me on the 23rd frame [11-11, advantage Selby] and strongly suggest Ronnie gets his Ronnie O'Sullivan on.

I offered it in the spirit of the great GW Bush's "the French don't have a word for entrepeneur", which nobody will ever persuade me was anything other than the funniest thing Dubya ever said, perhaps the only funny thing Dubya ever said. Or meant to say. Yes, that's it, the only funny thing GW Bush ever meant to say.

Anyway, Ronnie lost, so the Schadenfreude's strictly on me. And Ronnie, of course.

I got the joke (though perhaps may have missed the GWB element), but it seems my contribution to it fell flat.

After John Fogerty left CCR and had to sign away all of his royalties, Saul Zaentz sued him, saying "The Old Man down the Road" on the Centerfield album was a replica of "Run through the Jungle." So.......... Zaentz was sueing Fogerty for plagiarizing himself.

I wonder whether I am the only person in the world who didn't know this before.

In any case, it only strengthens my souring belief in humanity.

To prove his innocence, Fogerty had to take his guitar into the courtroom, play the two compositions, and demonstrate how they were distinct and different creations.

Go figure.

John Fogerty was screwed every which way by the music business,what happened to him was nothing short of scandalous,he was not the first muso that had to go through the court system and he will not be the last.It would be nice if John Fogerty got his dues from ROCKING ALL OVER THE WORLD alone,his original version is far superior to the Status Quo version.Keep on choogin JF!
