A thing I learned today

A place to discuss largely non-Pogues related things.

A St. Patrick's Day parade is about the worst place to be with a hangover. Diesel fumes, horses with explosive diarrhea, drums and pipes, dancing girls....

Oh, I also learned that it's not a good idea to get loaded on the hard-on-the tummy medication i'm on. Learned a lot this weekend!

Always read the instructions carefully in case you miss something. :|

It can be dangerous to recommend gigs to other people. Last night in the bar before a gig I bumped into a friend. "I've only come because you recommended it," she said, "and I've brought my friend along too." They'd driven for over an hour to get there. In the interval, I bumped into them at the bar again. "Enjoying it?" I said. They looked at me. "No," scowled friend's friend, "we're going home now."

Strangest thing was, as they were leaving, my friend said, "Got any other gigs you'd recommend?" She was serious about it too. Does she never learn?

To be honest, it was a rather weirdly uncomfortable and not great gig last night. I'm not sure that I enjoyed it either.

I've always thought that instruction manuals were just one of the many extra things that come with things to be assembled.

1000th Post

Post Mon Mar 26, 2012 1:47 pm

:D This is my 1000th post!!

My understanding is that when you reach this level I will be entitled to two round trip tickets (first class of course) plus 5 star hotel accomodations to the Pogues concert of my choice (my wife likes Paris) with the accompanying luxury box suite and backstage passes.

If not, at least I have had, what I believe, first class accomodation upon this raft-thanks to the Mods, O'bivilion-for making me spend time on Wikipedia looking up people due to his On this Day posting, all the great people here, plus Mr. Chevron, Spider and the Pogues for giving me a bit of escape from everyday life (and a great soundtrack!).

No, when you reach 1000 posts you get a mop and bucket, along with your admission to the elite ranks of the raft cleaning rota. DzM will be sending them to you shortly. When you get to 2000, you get a pair of rubber gloves as well.

Oh, and you get to buy drinks for the rest of the raft. Congratulations, in any case. 8)

Not so much today as last night, but close enough:

3 ibuprofen, 1 Vicodin, and a tall class of wine makes for the best night of sleep EVAR. This cocktail shouldn't be so hard to acquire, dammit.

Some people never learn!! The Killer, Jerry Lee Lewis marries for the seventh time! Not a cousin, but she was married to his cousin at one time.

No computing device is virus immune.

Here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5242

Released today, this (supposedly) addresses the Flashback virus. Run AppleMenu -> Software Update to have your system check whether it needs (or can use) this (and other) updates.

Actually, i did know that Macs were not really "immune" - just not usually targeted. For some reason.

I learned today that there are no longer enough of us at work to have a Grand National sweep. Fecking coalition spoils absolutely everything.

Should have done it anyway.

We don't have enough people either but most people got two horses, some (like myself) got a few more.
