Never say to your beloved after several glasses of wine when talking about The Pogues greatest hit Tesco is using Hairyfale of You Nork as their advert.

Hairyfale of You Nork may in fact be the correct title for what's being used in that Tesco ad. It's something that sounds a bit like Fairytale of New York but somehow just wrong.

I do hope Mr Tesco is paying vast amounts of money for the privilege...

I'm curious if they change a few notes in a tune so that one goes "Hey that sounds like ..." Is this automatically a ploy to nullify any royalties?

Unless they're using the Pogues recording - they're not - only the author(s)/compser(s) of the song are liable to receive royalties.

The world is very small.

An old friend born here in Vancouver but living in Montreal since the early 1980s came over this afternoon, ate cheese, drank wine, and showed my daughter how to use reverb on her violin. He leaves.
