On this Sunday's Desert Island Discs (BBC Radio 4) hypnotist Paul McKenna will explain how he "age-regresses" himself, the better to appreciate the effect Sister Sledge had on him when he first heard "We Are Family". Now that's dedication, if a bit, as McKenna himself concedes, weird. The only moment of comparable power I can recall is hearing the opening of "Anarchy In The UK" on John Peel's radio show in 1976, though I don't have to age-regress to relive it, I just stick the record on. Maybe that's because I'm not a professional hypnotist.

Awww, that's not so bad... it could be worse..."In The Navy" or "Rubberband Man" perhaps.

"Bad Girls", "December, 1963 (Oh, What A Night)", "Dim All The Lights", "I Will Survive", "Knock On Wood", "Last Dance", "Le Freak", "MacArthur Park", "On The Radio", "Ring My Bell", "Y.M.C.A.", etc. are class.

"It may surprise many of his fans to hear a new, more carnivorous, direction. "I wanted to make it different from the other ones, " he says. "I bumped into Shane MacGowan in the Heathrow airport bar. He was sitting there in his top hat having a few gargles and I was wearing a pair of shorts and t-shirt and he said I didn't look very rock 'n' roll and that I should get an electric guitar. So I bought one. I used to play a bit when I was younger.."
