I thought she looked fabulous on the Grammys when she introduced the Dixie Chicks. And her contributions to Martin Scorsese's "No Direction Home" - funny, honest, and slightly foul-mouthed - made her seem like someone I'd love to sit down and have a cup of coffee with.

I saw her perform in Washington DC at the peace rally in September '05. Her presence, singing timeless songs like "Joe Hill" and "Where Have All The Flowers Gone", really made me feel like I was in the right place, and that I was directly linked to the great protest movements of the past.

Although I don't own any of her records, and rarely listen to her music, I still count myself a big fan. I know on previous tours she's been accompanied by the great Graham Mabey (of Joe Jackson's band) on bass. That would be a big plus too.

She generally does some Steve Earle songs these days, I believe - expect to hear "Xmas in Washington" or "Jerusalem".
Disclaimer: These are my opinions and not fact as realised in these here United States, lest I give my friends the idea that everyone thinks like me.

The current UK tour is being described as "An Evening with Joan Baez: Protest singer, poet and social commentator". Yes, I think Graham Maby maybe in the band. Ms Baez still looks and sounds fantastic. She played at the folk fest a few years back now, so we saw her then, but from the back of a large crowd. Anyway, this all sounds great, and I'm very much looking forward to it.

Now listening to Joan Baez: Farewell, Angelina
